I play it and I enjoy it. But my stats aren't all that great. And I don't worry to much about stats. Is this a wrong way to think? I ask because a few people last night railed on me because of my stats. So how do you guys feel about it? 1

Honestly mate, every single online game has a certain demographic of tryhards who think that the point of online games is to dominate others and prove self-worth by climbing through the game's stats and content. It goes right back to the first multiplayer games. The moment player performance was reflected in persistent visible markers like gear, stats, ratios, leaderboards or titles, players with low self-esteem and empty lives started attaching more importance to brandishing those things in others' faces than to actually having fun for themselves.

In a way, they're enjoying the game their way, which is fine. But the important thing to remember is that everyone gets to enjoy the game their own way, not just the tryhards. Perceived-to-be difficult or unforgiving games (like Souls-likes and the new wave of ultra-realistic survival shooters such as Tarkov) always have a contingent of players who implore less dedicated players to "get good". You don't have to get good. If you want to and it gratifies you to get good, and you can, then do so. If you're happier playing the game your own way, do that instead. Don't let any toxic kid on their summer holiday tell you that you're playing the game 'wrong'.

The stats only matter if they matter to you.

Amy Schmirch: "The race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself."

Nick Cave: "I am in competition with no-one."

Max Ehrmann: "If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself."

As for WoT itself, I haven't played it, but I do know that it's pay-to-win to an extent, in the same way most freemium games are: you can progress without paying real money, but you've got to grind a lot of hours in the game instead. So if you see someone with bonkers stats, it just means they've been playing the game a long, long time, and plausibly paid for quicker advancement and access to kit too. So don't compare yourself to them. If their egos are so fragile that they have to dunk on people for not playing a game as much as them, you're already better than them in other, more important ways.

I play World of Warships, and you see the same crap in there too - not as toxic as WoT but it's still there.

I had a guy on my team getting shamed a couple of weeks back, for having a 43% win rate, after being accused of not helping the team - he had in fact just helped me clear a flank and was on the opposite side of the map from the ass who was moaning about lack of support. I looked at the guy's profile and his WR was only 2% above my team mate.

Stat-shaming is for lowlife limp dick asshats, trying to make themselves feel relevant. If you enjoy the game, just ignore them/block their messages.

I do play WoT and used to play WoWs, and can only agree with the above. Every player will have had what you have experienced at some point. Much of the time, the ones who are complaining are the ones who have already thrown their tank away by driving straight to the middle/other end of the map, then moan that they didn't get support, and then sometimes pick on someone. They have time - because they lasted 30 seconds in the game.

Most of the online games will have a selection of this kind of player - you notice them more because they're much more vocal than the majority.

Take a break every so often, watch some Klaus Kellerman on the 'tube, and comfort yourself in the knowledge that it takes allsorts.

I played WoT obsessively - while it was in beta I was playing 8-10h a day easily (the "benefits" of being unemployed!)

Once it went public and went pay-to-win (which took 2-3 years I might add), I moved on as it wasn't what I enjoyed. I tried WoWs as well, and again once you get to a certain level it becomes all about pay-to-win. Worth playing but stop at about tier 6 imho.

Why? You can grind to T10 pretty easily - I've reset my tech tree lines and went through the re-grind multiple times to get RB points - and you can grind a fair number of premium/special ships via coal/steel/Research Bureau.

Best post of any kind I've read on here for a long time.
I don't play these freemium games myself.
I play rally games from time to time and whatever time I post, that's it, no retries, even I drive off a cliff four times and finished in hundredth place.
No pressure, more fun and when I listen to the co driver and post a good time occasionally, it's much more enjoyable than trying the same course 50 times until I 'win'

Yeah it's not too bad to grind up to T10 if you want, but you also run into people who are using the paid ammo for their advantage in most matches in T7 on, which takes the fun out of it imho. Obviously not every player at T7 starts, but it becomes occasional, right up to T10 where it's pretty much every match in my experience.

Sorry, was referring to WoWS - no gold ammo nonsense, thankfully

I'm clearly out of touch as I thought there was premium ammo in there, maybe I should fire it back up

Don't worry, they make up for it by introducing subs and carriers that are hilariously over-powered and broken.

If they bring in premium ammo, I'm done. I love the game, but they do like to test the limits of your tolerance.

Last time I played subs were still in beta, but hilariously broken (and fun!), carriers are maddening because until about tier 7 or 8 you can barely do any damage, then they suddenly become the GOAT in every match... I mean it's historically accurate but infuriating :D

They took subs away for a couple of patches to "fine tune" them. Now they're back, more broken than ever.
