After I upgraded from within Vista64 to Win7-64, I had a couple of issues. Namely, my dvd drive wouldn't appear in My Computer, no matter what I tried. After backing everything up (which took an ungodly amount of time at 10-20MB/s on a usb hdd) and installing Windows 7 clean, it works a treat. Took about 20 minutes or so for me. Seems to boot/work a little snappier. Windows Rating, I think was 4.7 overall (on my laptop, this is).
So far, it's supported everything I've installed on it, and I love the new toolbar, so amazing, excellent performance as well, no random spikes in CPU or RAM or HDD usage on Windows 7 as of it, I love it.
Dose anyone know how to get quick launch back? im starting to hate how many clicks it take to open my computer or my docs and such, i want to pin them to the menu and i only get pin to explorer, so then i have to click explorer then select my computer which is pointless imo. i like one click and its open Edit: found it! Right click in the taskbar -> Toolbars -> New Toolbar... Now search in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ for the folder "Quick Launch" Just incase anyone else wants it.
Can you not just drag them onto the taskbar? I'm quite liking it. It just feels like Vista, but more unified.
how long will it take if i were to partition a 1TB drive with around 600GB of data? interested in making one partition of my 1TB into a Win7 disk.
<10min. partitioning and formatting is quick. moving data is slow. as long as your data is all at the beginning of the disk, shrinking and adding another partition is trivial.
Why would my hard drive only be getting a score of 2 in the Experience Index? It's a 7200rpm 250gb Seagate, and quite new.
SATA2 I guess? Maybe Win7 takes SSDs and the new 1TB drives as maximum? Weird though as that'd mean I'll only get 2. Vista gave me max-0.2 (4.8 or 5.8 whatever it was).
whenever i did that it pinned it to another menua so i had to click that then move up in the window that opened and click something else. i profer having items in the quick launch so its just one click and its open (hopefuly anyway lol) So realy now ive turned this 7 into vista, the only thing im finding useful is the dragging windows to the taskbar and then they will also strech up aswell.
Hmm, very weird, perhaps it's horribly fragmented already? I don't know, Windows 7 gave my HDD (250GB SATAII WD 7200RPM, about 2 years old now) a 5.9 for disk performance.
I get 5.9 in Vista for the same drive. I'll have a tinker around inside 7 and see if the disk is actually slow, or whether it's just a random error.
I get a low score with my hard drive in Windows 7 as well, compared to Vista. I think they may have changed the benchmark "difficulty", with the imminent mass-market appeal of SSDs.
CPU - T7250 @ 2Ghz - scores 5 RAM - 4GB DDR2 SoDIMM PC-6400 - scores 5 Graphics and Gaming Graphics - M8600GT 256MB w/Windows7 driver - both score 4.7 Hard Drive - WD 320GB, one big partition - scores 5.4 Btw, I love the new effect of temporarily bringing up windows when hovering over their thumbnails off the taskbar. Very smart!
Any of you attempt to install Daemon Tools onto Windows 7? I've heard that it isn't supported, and I don't think Alcohol 120 is either. If this is the case, what other ways are there of obtaining optical media emulation?
i just ran windows update for the first time, very nice. they've finally decided to include plaintext descriptions of what the update does, rather than just the stupid "KBxxxxxx" reference. also, nvidia drivers through windows update - nice!
I'll try that thanks Does anyone have problems with the quick search not working in Firefox? I can't even click the magnifying glass icon or press enter to get a search going!
no problems here. Anyone know if there is a way to allow the beta to continue working after august? I am having issues running .swf files in ie tho... however they work fine in FF... funny
I'll try a reinstall of FF then. I first tried the Beta 3.1 but it was called Shiretseko when it installed or some funky name so I was really cautious. I currently have FF 3.0.5 installed, which is what is on the main FF page.
