*Edit* Previously started this thread regarding an issue I originally had. Now it's resolved, this thread can be used to discuss all things Windows 8.1.
I have just restored windows 8 and ran scan for new hardware and it works fine. So it can't be any particular hardware faults.
Windows 8.1 is officially released Oct 21st. Also, for next time, be sure to Uninstall your security software, if it's not Windows Defender of Win8, BEFORE doing the upgrade. A/V solutions can block the upgrade form being successful. In addition, you should wait for Windows 8.1 drivers. The kernel was updated. You may also need to update the BIOS.
I didn't upgrade Goodbytes as I did a clean install. Going to stick to Windows 8 for now then upgrade when it's officially released.
Really ?! I just downloaded it and I can't see anything telling me it's RTM copy name : en_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707217 (3.8GB) is that the final copy or i will be re ordering it from dreamspark again ?
RTM is release to manufactures for testing. It means that the OS isn't ready yet. What's happening is that Dell, HP, Acer, etc.. takes Windows 8.1, and makes sure it passed some rigorous testing, for the current supported systems. At the same time, Microsoft does it's own rigorous testing as well. Any fixes, depending on the seriousness will be day 1 patch available on Windows Update, or execute within the setup process at the end, or patch the OS itself,. (usually, it's day 1 patch) At the same time, Microsoft continues to work on the OS. But usually things that don't relate to the OS itself, like the programs that it comes with it. In most cases, there isn't much to do, but this time there is, because Microsoft not only presented updated apps, but also new ones. That is why Microsoft decided not to release it for MSDN/MSDNAA/DreamSpark/TechNet initially. They didn't want to see reviews going like "This and that is broken, Win8.1 sucks", as they continue work on them. Changing that decision is risky, but so far, it's going well.. no one cares about this build to attack clicks from the news media, people want the final official version.
Just to echo what GoodBytes said, there has already been one QFE's released since RTM that weighs in at 200Mb for x64, and 100Mb for x86 and contains no less than 658 updated packages. People are also expecting another QFE either on or shortly before GA, so a lot has already changed since RTM.
12pm has been and gone, it was meant to be launched 13 minutes ago ... but hunting around on https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=where+to+download+windows+8.1+update is not helping? I tried the link on http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/buy?ocid=GA8_O_WOL_Hero_ShopHP_FPP_Null but I dont think that is the update? Hmmmmmmm according to http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer...windows-81-update-lands-at-12pm-uk-time-today I should be able to get it already. Windows update does not show any update to download. Anyone found a link yet for the update for windows 8.1 final?
