If i get me a copy of vista it'll either be the Windows Vista Home Premium
or mabe even Windows Vista Ultimate because it has alot of nice features...
I think those prices are pretty "normal" for a next gen os...if it really is one.

    What should that be?

I hate the difference between retail and OEM prices. They need to sort it out, but then again a lot of people are going to have to upgrade to run vista properly so I'm personally more interested in OEM prices.

I imagine as many as 5/10 or maybe even more will be using Ultimate edition as soon as it's out.

Intresting to read the figures. If MS end up charging £250 for the ultimate edition in the UK, and matching the price scheme $ for £, I will laugh so hard when they whine about being ripped off.

Thats the same price as Retail Windows XP w/SP2.

Retail will probably be sub £100

The latest build (5536 /RC1) is excellent, and I'll be getting the 'Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade' = £100.

    I think it's a reasonable price.

If upgrade includes going from Vista beta then I might buy it :) I'm not paying £250 for it, period, and I'm only really interested in the premium as that's what I'm using at the moment.

    Buy......software? :/

250 quid is a joke. They'd probably make more money from home consumers if it was 25 quid

Considering how much work has been put into it and that it'll be the defacto OS/piece of software you use day in day out for the next few years (possibly another 4 at least) then £250 isnt toooooooooo bad, but it's still expensive. People dont blink an eye when popping £250 on a graphics card but suggest they spend £250 on software and they throw a fit. Afterall a DVD looks like a DVD is a DVD, whereas a graphics card is something you can hold and go "WOoooo" with. The physical nature correlation with what you're getting for your money doesnt match in the mind.

Why Im questioning paying for it: How many hardware changes do I get before I have to pay for it again? If not now (ie: buy a copy and it's YOURS through all your hardware), will it be implemented now or in 1/2/3/4 years? Will paying for it and having to go through all the DRM process be more hassle then just waiting until it's cracked and obtaining that copy? (which, lets be fair, it usually is and is another reason that puts people off).

    Should be £130 I guess.

I'll wait for it being availible for free at my university. And 'till I upgrade of course. Like... before Christmas. :)

The new OEM policy locks it down to the first motherboard that it is installed on .. Not really suitable for someone who would switch motherboards or computers a few times. Whereas the retail can be moved as many times as you want as long as you only have it installed on 1 pc at a time.
