Ok, my second K400 has finally died - they lasted a good long time and I got them cheap, so I'm not too upset. Anyhoo, I'm looking for a replacement - something a little more... nicerer, betterer... um... premium (ish) It needs some form of mouse pointer control, be it a D pad, touchpad , mini joystick etc.. I don't want a bluetooth keyboard, well.. it can have bluetooth, but it must be dual mode at least. I'll mainly use it as a board for testing PCs, using my spare rig etc.. Does anyone have any recommendations? The K83 looks nice, but I ain't paying that kind of money for a spare board.
I'm not sure there really is anything nicer than a k400, but cheaper than the k83. The k600 doesn't look like it'd be any different than the 400. I've used a couple of the rii ones and whilst they're fine for general htpc browsing, they're definitely not premium. lol
Cheers Andy. Yeah, looks like there's only really the K600 before you get into stupid money. I've just seen a Rii K22 on Amazon for £15 - I must just forget about premium and grab one to try it out.
I'm currently on a rii i8, it's like a megadrive controller. Previous one mostly survived a ruddy good thrashing in a moment of madness. lol
Ordered my 2nd K400 on prime day for less than £20, to use on my smart tv upstairs, can't fault them. Black Friday coming up maybe wait
The Rii K22 arrived earlier today. Been using it for the last couple of hours and I'm fairly impressed with it. The construction is metal and plastic, and it feels pretty solid. The typing action is good - obviously, you have to temper your expectations with these things but it actually feels a bit better than my Logitech K400 boards. It does struggle ever so slightly with fast typing and can occasionally miss the second keystroke on double letters. It's not an issue for my use case or most that this will likely be employed for, but I think it might gnaw at you if used consistently for quickly composing text longer than a typical forum post. The touchpad though... I love it. It's REALLY good - the pad itself feels very responsive and the scrolling function at the right hand edge is marvellous. For £15, it' pretty bloody impressive.
