Is it worth upgrading from my existing G620 to an I3/I5 (H61 motherboard so no o/c) or should I look at upgrading the GPU? I've got a 6870 at the moment.

Mainly playing BF3 and Skyrim at 1920x1080.

    For games, always GPU first.

Skyrim, admittedly, is a pretty CPU hungry game, but BF3 isn't at all, that game loves the GPU.

Overall though, you'll see more benefit in more games with a faster GPU.

Yeah Skyrim runs ok but I am wondering if the GPU will make a huge difference to it. Any suggestions on GPU, I was thinking something like a 7950 perhaps. Not really up to date with graphics cards so there may be a better option out there.

I was looking at the 7950's over the last few weeks after seeing how easily and far they overclock as a rule. They offer great value and near 7970 performance and are popping up around the £200 mark now and again.

The card linked above looks ridiculously good value though and is certainly comparable to a stock clocked 7950 for a good chunk less cash.

My personal preference is for 7950 and the OC potential but if thats not your thing the 7870 linked above is a great choice.

As ever, buy the best you can justify at the time.

One thing worth noting is the G620 runs the memory at 1066 which i believe would seriously hamper cpu limited games.
