News Xbox 360 to get UK price cut this Friday

The UK will officially get the same Xbox 360 price cut as seen in the US and Japan it seems, with Microsoft confirming price cut leaks.

 

Wow! Way to go! That sure took a bite out of Nintendo. Sony is completely chewed up.

60GB 360 cheaper than a wii....... someone at MS must of gone crazy!!!!!!!!

those die shrinks for the cpu (falcon) & gpu eventually (jasper) on the xbox must also attribute to the price drops, good for them, bad for sony though

 

Lost Odyssey is proberbly is the best JRPG I've played on the system so far though (with Blue Dragon coming a close 2nd followed by Eternal Sonata which was enjoyable but utterly pointless and requires a 2nd play through to complete properly).
I haven't played Infinite Undiscovery yet although that will most likely be the next JRPG I get.

 

I wonder if Sony is now reviewing their "No price cut this year".
Seems like the x360 is moving towards the final stage (in console life cycle) already the PS3 is arguably yet to hit its stride.

 

I can't help but think it slightly sad when the XBox has more JRPGs on it than the PS3.

Any other RPGs worth a mention on the XBox? (Discounting Mass Effect et al...)

Oh, and b*llocks. My 360 is going on eBay on Saturday . Hopefully the games I put on though will go up slightly in price? I mean someones going to be looking to pick up GTA4, right? I'm going to sob in a corner now...

 

damn... that's nice... that and i feel that MS are in a hurry to get the next one out... with bigger optical drive capabilities....

 

ooo, this could spur Sony into lowering the price of it's flagship monster, which is perfect for me, as i'm currently in the market for it.

the elite seems very very tempting now, I don;t think Sony will cut prices as they have just upped the HDD instead on the system, wonder if nintendo will do anything. They can no longer claim the lowest price...

but just bought a PS3 so will have to wait a while maybe after christmas...

 

sony still lose something like £140 on every console. MS about 6/9 months ago start making a profit from 360 consoles. the big money comes from games (the average is 5.5 games on 360 as far as i remember). so sony are along way from making the ps3 competively priced.

you'll def want an elite with 120GB if your thinking about buying one as the update in autumn allows playing from the HDD

 

That might also be the reason why the Xbox 360 finally started selling in Japan this month (see: http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/infinite-undiscovery-price-cut-help-xbox-360-outsell-wii-in-jap/)..

I think the Japanese are starting to get the picture that the Xbox 360 offers more games, also for them..

 

the final stage? you mean mass market penetration.
The PS3 yet to hit it's stride? Possibly there's more power to be used if you spend the millions needed (that you won't make back) to get at it. Latest estimate for the PS3 to start making money if they do not drop the cost is 2-3 YEARS time.

I wonder if it'll really start striding or will it continue to crawl and stumble..

I doubt that the PS3 still costs that much to make... Blu-Ray drives have more than halved in price since then, and production bugs must have been sorted out by now. 5.5 games? Holy cow. That costs more than an Xbox. :O

 

i read it the other week in a magazine, dont have a clue what magazine it was. the blu ray drive isnt the only costly component. it takes along time to make a profit from a console. its not production bugs its the cost of the components
