Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these motherboards? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-...-sata-raid-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dvi-d-hdmi-atx http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-...gb-s-raid-sata-pcie-30-(x16)-vga-on-board-atx Im torn between the two, Im struggling to justify the extra £9 for the GD55. The PCIE3 is a must hence the reason for these choices, is the GD55 worth getting over the G45?
The only noticeable differences are in the internal I/O, so have a look and see which one has the ones you need. I have listed the things the GD55 has that the GD45 doesn't, and vice versa: GD55 1 x CD-In 1 x OC Switch 1 x Reset Button 1 x START (Power On) button 3 x USB 2.0 Header GD45 1 x Serial (COM) Header 4 x USB 2.0 Header
After looking at both I've noticed that the GD55 has a power on button on the motherboard itself while the G45 does not. Another thing to note is that the the G45 has 3 PCI e 2.0's running at x1 and the GD55 has 2 PCI e 2.0's running at x16 as well as 2 PCI e 3.0's at x16. It also has 3x PCI e x1 slots. The GD55 has more features so I would spend the extra £9 and get the GD55. However it depends if you are satisfied with the features of the G45 and can justify not needing the extra stuff the G55 provides
The GD55 doesn't come with the PCIe 2.0 slots, just the 3.0 ones. That's a mistake on Scan's part (Check the pictures)
yeah, there are only 2 PCIE slots, so they will be 3.0. Am I right in saying that there will be no boards that run 2 x 16 in SLI? maybe just the really expensive ones? How about this one?.... http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...-sata-raid-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dvi-d-hdmi-atx
Both of the MSI boards you linked will run both PCIe lanes at x16 in SLI as it says "2 x PCIe 3.0 x16" if it says "2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 (x8 bandwith)" then it will run at x8 in SLI
Hey of you willin to spend about 350 toy could go for the republic of gamers motherboards becuase they are quite good
I have settled for the Asus P8Z68-V/Gen 3, might as well pay the little extra for the more features. another question, would anyone get 16gb ram seen as its so cheap or just stay with 8gb as there is no point for gaming?
No point getting 16GB, I doubt you will even use 8GB, you're just throwing money away to be honest, and filling up all your DIMM slots can limit overclocking and stability
Let me tell you... After upgrading to this mobo and i5 2500k, I was using my old 8gb 1600mhz at first. I then bought 16gb 1866mhz GSKILL and the difference was immediately apparent! Windows desktop was noticably quicker, shutdown, app more responsive. This motherboard takes my i5 2500k to 5ghz on auto settings, that's with the 16gb 1866mhz GSKILL in all 4 slots. Worth it!!
Well I notice no difference having 16 over 8, I only bought a second lot of LP 8 for clearance with my heatsink and the need to keep dual channel (didn't see the point putting the old ram up for sale, could come in handy sometime for another rig)
http://www.ebuyer.com/319758-g-skil...-16gbzl?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products I paid £110 for mine. A friend of mine got the same ram at £65 a week later due to a temporary pricing error at ebuyer.
Totally on topic. I bought 2 x Regae Regae pasties from the local grocery store. I like my SLI. Not even 2 x 560Ti can handle BF3 on Ultra though.
ha, I was just saying what im doing as part of my build, tis my thread after all! How are those pasties btw??
Don't worry bolton, feathers has a habit of being a wum He will have you running a WC loop with a bucket from your ceiling if you give him half a chance. Good job with the sli 460, watch out for the extra heat, took a bit of work to get on top of on my system!
My single 460 is currently oc'd to 850mhz and doesnt seem to get above 60 degrees, can't wait to get it all together.
