Yo-duh that is a pretty good idea, I will think about it. I think I will really use the Chaintech to build my wife a new computer.
Great to see some pic of the beast in action Zap Awesome news about you winning that motherboard too! Now what to do with the RMA I would build ya wife a compie ......................................in the other LAN box, and take yer wife you ! -cLoWn
WOW! Congratulations on winning at the LAN! I have been checking out this thread for a while and, like Pug, haven't had the words to describe this Mod. Simply Awesome ... /applause
How is is this to transport, remember the original focus a LAN pc. While you made the LAN do you see this as the end solution all will you go back to just the amo box. Not being a damp squid just know what a pain it is to do LAN's with multable boxes. Nice to see you got something for all that hard work
In the end it should all end up in just three containers: The LAN PC in it's ammo case The LCD, headphones, mouse, chords, all in the nightvision case. And for the keyboard I plan on a back-straped short rifle case. I WON'T be carrying anything looking like a PC in.
well even if he didn't get pulled over imagine halling in an ammo case and a rifle case people will give you wired looks and some might get worried hey try this when you do got to the lan and people ask what its for say you get very angry at cheaters and this is justice
I guess I've been lurking here for far too long. Great work zap, but i absolutely MUST know how you got the letters back on that MS ergonomic keyboard. I've got my gen 1 ergo ready to dye, but have hesitated to do so because of the not being able to see the letters (for puncutation, and non standard hand positions in photoshop)... I use my left hand ffor the right side of the keyboard sometimes b/c I'm using the tablet with my right hand. Pleaaase tell, link, etc. You should do AMDs show cases for the Operton.
I didn't put the letters back on the keyboard. It is not even a microsoft keyboard, it's a MAC/PC USB compatible keyboard with macintosh key labels on it. It came with black keys, a green top,and clear bottom.
Nice job with the save zap! Did you tell anyone that the mobo wasn't actually inside the ammo box? And why dont you return the chaintech board, and get a nicer one. If your building it for you wife, i dont think she'll be happy with crap parts! btw: i was gone while i was on irc, so i couldn't reply then
Ya, I showed a few people the real guts, they still think the mod rocked, even if that was the final design. The problem is that I already RMA'ed the board for replacement, and not refund. (I didn't think I would be winning a new board, and it would just happen to fit perfectly) But I shouldn't be as demanding on it when building my wife's PC -------------------------- I did wire everything up externaly last night and test the new motherboard. First off Leadtek DOES use a nice layer of thermal paste on their northbridge, where as Chaintech uses ZERO thermal material. Installing it was a breeze as I didn't have to load any new drivers, and it runs perfectly. I got it up to 170mhz FSB and ran BF1942 for more than an hour without any crashes. I also decided to take my Corsair XMS CAS2 400MHZ DDR out of my main PC an use it for the LAN PC. So the current system specs are: Athlon XP 2700+ 333mhz: running at 2.2ghz at 370mhz FSB Corsair XMS CAS2 400mhz DDR: running at 512mb in Dual 256mb DDR Leadtek K7NCR18DM nForce2 Ultra 400 Western Digital 7200RPM 20GB Harddrive 185-watt PSU (PSU will be augmented/upgraded for a AGP8x card later) Slim-style DVD drive Logitech MX300 USB mouse USB keyboard with dual USB Hub Homemade Quadraphonic headphones Noritake 800 128x64 VFD 6-level fan controller
