Nope... but someone should Someone should also mention Leonard Cohen (at least some of his depression phase work) in the same breath... Have some rep, B_E
What about Iron Maiden? Also, if you're into comedy metal, try a band called Psychostick. They're not very well known but some of their stuff is fried gold. Alternatively, try some Folk Metal. Its very calming (to me!), Turisas, Korpiklaani and Ensiferum would be good examples.
Maiden, Priest, Iced Earth, Hammerfall if you're into classic heavy metal AC/DC, Priestess, Airbourne if you're into more AC/DC style rock Steel Panther if you're into parody glam that's better than most Glam bands ever were Velvet Revolver, old Guns n Roses for that GnR feel System of a Down, Serj Tankian for some political weirdo stuff John 5, Jeff Loomis, Joe Satriani for some shred Paul Rodgers' Muddy Water Blues album for some brilliant blues covers and some own stuff I could really go on forever. Oh, and I had a bit of a better listen to AFI's "crash love" - also a good album
Damn thanks guys there's so many suggestions its pretty much impossible to keep up now lol! having to cherry pick a bit now until I've caught up with all the new stuff I got. Spent most of yesterday with my headphones in and really loving billy talent then felt like something a bit faster for modding so went with "chase and status" another great album that genius pulled up for me. Up until the last 2 posts I was beginning to think the whole of bit-tech was pure metal and punk fans. @ woof82 - hell yeah, a friend linked me to Mt Eden a few days ago and sierra leone just blew me away (and most of my desk due to not turning my sub down lol) going to give freestylers a go and pray that there not like most dub where there's one great track and then 8 terrible ones @InSanCen - Its impossible to go wring with prodigy @boiled_elephant - hmmm dont mind a bit of Elvis but its really rare I'm in "one of those moods" but Nick cave gets a play almost once a week @ BentAnat - How could I forget Cohen! I lost all his albums when my HD died last year defiantly going to be getting the greatest hits collection @ Chimmy09 - I remember going to see Andrew WK in birmingham just when his "I get wet" album came out on that night one of he supporting acts was ment to be BRMC but they didn't turn up so instead the coral filled in, the first thing they said was "you probably don't know us and were not very good but were just going to play a few songs for you" needles to say they kind of stole the show a bit that night. We did also get to chill out with Andrew at the end of the night got a bit wasted and watched one of his staff try to ollie a skateboard up a curb drunk and end up nearly breaking his arm... god night in all lol.
A few more suggestions... Slash's Snakepit. Pretty good blues/rock stuff. ZZ Top. Do I need to explain? UFO. Great 70s-80s rock band. Ted Nugent. It's the ****ing Nuge. Motorhead. Older stuff with Eddie Clarke on guitar is best.
Scorpions - Crazy World Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood Pretty Maids - Anything worth doing is worth overdoing Thos are must-have albums, pretty much no matter who you are (at least the first two... the third is just bloody good). Then, if you're into heavier or more metal stuff: Iron Maiden - 7th Son of a 7th Son Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution Slayer - South of Heaven Metallica - Black (though I hate it, it's a must-have) At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul (mentioned before, but it is a must-have for fans of the genre) In Flames - Reroute to Remain or Clayman Soilwork - Figure Number Five Def Leppard - Pyromania Def Leppard - Hysteria Bon Jovi - Crossroads (what someone call names/throw stones coz of this one)
It's an epic album. So many cool songs, so catchy. So...well... Bon Jovi in their glory days. I actually think I might listen to some Bon Jovi now... /me lines up "blaze of glory" next
OK. Can do: Arch Enemy - You'd never guess that this is a girl. A Blonde not-horrible-looking one on top of that. Lacuna Coil - Pop rock metal stuffs with an annoying backing vocalist, but otherwise good Nightwish - Vanilla operah-metal. The new stuff is more pop-based, which I feel fits their style better. The bassist has a GODLY voice. Tokio Hotel - Well, he looks like a girl. And sounds like one Guano Apes - Good solid 90's/2000's rap/rock mix stuff Girlschool - Old Rock band. Some good tunes Rockbitch - Don't Youtube them. Just don't. they're not known for their musical prowess. Wiki before Youtube.
I know this might be a bit out of place with all the metal that has been suggested but if you want a comic musician then Tim Minchin gets my vote. His live show was on E4 not too long ago and i have to say, it had me laughing out loud on several occasions. The show which i saw was called "So ****ing Rock Live". it's £6.99 on amazon so give it a try.
