Mine only need to look shelf good at the moment, , still not played any proper games with them. Maybe wee should have a bit-tech warhammer meet/match,
Just finished another tyranid off. This was a tester to try out a new paint scheme/method. Really like it, the flesh wash goes on so much better than devlan mud.
Nice tyranid! My Forge World Dreadnought Mk IV was ordered at around 10pm yesterday - and has already been posted. Hurrah! The only problem is the fact that my air compressor has broken - and it's £150 to fix!! Am I right in thinking Games Workshop does spray cans of basic colours? If so that would work fine. But what colour to paint, hmm? Ultramarines Blue is beckoning, but we shall see.
Games-workshop no. Army painter on the other hand do I really need to get an airbrush sorted out Which dread did you get from FW? I'm thinking of picking up a contemptor myself atm
They definitely do Black and White, haven't been in GW for ages so couldn't say on other colours... but please, PLEASE, don't paint it smurf blue...
But Papa told me to! Seriously, my 40,000 lore is seriously lacking. Are there any schemes which are definitely right or wrong for the Mk IV?
OK, I'll take a look at Army Painter, thanks. Do you need an airbrush? I got given two identical Testors Aztek brushes with a variety of heads (although I only ever use the tan one). I'll let you have my spare for a snip if you want it, but you'll of course need to source some air. I went for the basic MK IV body (the plain one). http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/MK-IV-DREADNOUGHT.html I ordered a claw on the left and an inferno cannon on the right. I also went for the base with the feet already moulded in place. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/SPACE-MARINE-MKIV-DREADNOUGHT-BASE.html Any idea what's buried in the rubble? It looks like a dead Dreadnought. A friendly one that's been destroyed or a Chaos one? (ie what colour to paint it). Were there any Chaos MK IVs? I told you my Warhammer 40,000 knowledge was lacking.
That might look very nice! Black and white are the hardest colours to paint because shadows and highlights need extra care & attention. But done well (fingers crossed) and it would look good. Can you help out with the various insignia, scripts, purity seals etc (what is a purity seal anyway). I'm guessing I'll now need this: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/BLACK-TEMPLARS-TRANSFER-SHEET.html And/or this: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Etched_Brass/ETCHED-BRASS-BLACK-TEMPLARS-SYMBOLS.html And which chapter (any?) has these cool skulls: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/SPACE-MARINE-MARKINGS-TRANSFER-SHEET.html
Ah ha! I have just found the decal sheet and some leftover parts from the plastic Mk V that I built for my son. I have a plastic Maltese cross, with a skull and crossbones in the middle, and the decal sheet has some markings specifically marked up as Black Templars (solid black Maltese crosses). There are also some insignia I don't recognise - Black skulls on a white background and white skulls on their own. Another one looks like Oswald Moseley's British Union Of Fascists black lightning over a white circular background. I'm sure these all mean something and are not just decoration. Please advise.
It's been a loooong time since I've looked at the official GW sheets >.> I know White Scars are lightning based for their symbol, but I can't recall any others. The Oppressor Tracks arrived today;
the bottom left quarter of the decal sheet is IIRC just unit markings/decoration... but if you want to use them as a chapter badge, nothing stopping you... Assuming it is of course, this one you're referring to.
They used to do Dark Angel Green, Blood Red Bad Moon Yellow and Smurf Blue but I can't say I've noticed them for a while. They may have stopped selling colour cans as they sell a flamer airgun/brush so you could mix your own undercoats (I've used bolt-gun silver to undercoat my dreads). Edit: checked on the GW site, they definitly only do Black/white/purity seal and compressed air for the airbrush now.
Army painter do loads of coloured spay , not sure how good they are but i can vouch for the black primer as i just used it to prime my stonehorn... http://shop.thearmypainter.com/products.php?ProductGroupId=2
army painter primers are good they are making the colours into pots of paint to use with a brush soon too. Anyone know how to make the ghost arch work on flying base better mines not sitting right
Been working on the red scorpions (After cleaning up the land raider sized Oppressor Tracks, that is):
Decided to put my super heavy together finally, only been sat in a box for a few years, need to glue it together tonight and fill in a few bubbles/rough areas then prime for tank battle tomorrow. I clean all the mold lines off that i can, models do look better for it, mouldine scraper works alot better then the hobby knife and files mainly due to less fingers being cut. GW paints arent too bad in price- if you want to get back into the hobby buy the mega paint set 155 for all paints, brushes, flock etc.
Nice work on those horns, looks like some pretty convincing stone. Not sure on the base vegetation though
