I didn't take these photos today, so they're not entirely appropriate for "Photo of the day" but who cares? Firstly I have two I took while walking home from school on a route I don't usually take. The second two were taking in St James' Park in London last Sunday, in the evening when the light was gorgeous. (Slightly blurred because I was using a 300mm lens on a crop sensor, with too slow a shutter speed)

[/IMG] not sure if i should post this ! , still trying to get to grips with my camera . any feedback taken , this is the view from nairn beach to the black isle .
Well I've no doubt that it's an accurate record of what that landscape looked like from where you were yesterday... ...but I imagine most would agree that it struggles in the 'interesting' department. The reality of landscapes is that they often lack colour contrast and vibrancy and look a bit hazy, so you either need good lighting conditions, dramatic skyscapes, or something going on in front of the landscape that adds interest, otherwise it looks a bit drab and flat. Also, for this shot, I would say you've got too much sky and not enough grasses.
your points are taken on board . and i agree with to much sky , still one day i hope to amaze you all .... muahahahahah
That's totally awesome - can you just walk into that place or is it somewhere you had to get special access to? Looks like it should be boarded up.
I was always told that eye contact is the most important thing when taking pictures of animals or people. Bear that in mind when taking pics of your cats. Also experiment with distance - all them shots seem to be of a subject the same 30cm-60cm away from the camera It's the lighting that makes these look so good, what are you using? I'm also surprised that you can freeze the liquid so well with such a high shutter speed, given that A) you're using the kit lens (which isn't particularly fast) and B) there doesn't look like there is that much light there.
I think just a couple of minutes in something like photoshop could make it look far more interesting, I don't really know what I'm doing in it yet, but a little bit of trial and error could make the colours a little more vibrant which i think would help Still a nice photo in my opinion. Edit: Running man escape by George.Yoda, on Flickr Thought I'd have a go at some low light stuff last night.
Thanks, Yeah could pretty much just walk in, no breaking in. been 3-4 times now. Was on old insane asylum in north wales, place was huge. Luckily enough they've started to restore it and putting it back to some sort of former glory. Shot of the front: Denbigh Asylum by lewisbrymner, on Flickr
Julie I've set up a bit of DIY beauty/headshot/portrait studio with a bunch of cheap TL lights (about 16 in total). Thursday I had a friend over for dinner and took a few "test shots" with her as a test-shoot. The idea is that you see the TL-light tubes in her eyes (you'll need to view full res to see properly). Since I want to have a go at the beauty-stuff, the pictures was post-processed quite a bit. If anybody cares about that, you can find the original here. The thumbnail is pretty small, so please click (twice) for full resolution. I'd love to hear your comments and feedback.
I'm no expert, but I don't really like the effect that gives- it kinda makes the pupil look elongated like a cats eye, but it looks a bit odd to me personally... I dunno...
We were out walking down Basingstoke Canal, and I spotted an opportunity, so got the camera and tripod out and started snapping. 320 photos went into the making of this panorama, and I plan to get out on the bike in the summer and do the full Basingstoke to Woking route, with lots of photo breaks Full Resolution (60MB file!)

Lewis - great shots, especially the first! Love that sort of stuff. Lovah - cant say I'm a huge fan of the softness or the catchlights but I like the vignette up top and the contrast in that shot. Whisperwolf - wicked! Russian Over New Delhi by angad84, on Flickr Magos Herrera by angad84, on Flickr
