Guys, imagine the unpleasant scenario where you're selling your bike. You put an ad on the internet. How do you prefer to be contacted by potential buyers?

    1) Messaging system on the site you listed it
    2) You leave your phone number and/or email in the ad
    3) Some other method of communication with potential buyers (please explain!)

    Which do you prefer?

Option 1, if available, followed by email, then phone. None of it will stop stupid people ringing with ridiculous questions though.

For selling a vehicle, I put in a phone number and an Email.
This is a prepaid calling card that I hardly use though. And an Email adress specifically created for this.
Wouldn't give up my personal mobile number or my landline, there'd be no end of people calling "I'll Pay 20%, be there in an hour". (at least in my country)

What works well is a combination of 1 and 2, Buyer contacts you through the internal message system (therefore does not see your emailadress) but the system sends this to your email, replys go back to to the system and from there to the buyers email.

Actually this is what ebay-classifieds use, and it works very well. ;)

I prefer 1 but would like to have the option of 2. Both should be available.

Unrelated, finally caved and bought myself a set of lovely CNCd Titax brake & clutch levers, with gold adjusters to match the calipers on my bike. Early birthday present to myself

God I hate selling bikes privately, I prefer to trade them in. Hasn't happened for a while though.

The last bike I sold was a CCM supermotard. One guy turned up to view it gave me a £100 deposit and never heard from him again.

Ended up trading it for an R1. oh well

It was a fun bike, but I don't really miss it. Bloody scary above 80mph it would weave about a lot

Yeah there's that too, and if the bike developed a fault they'd be knocking on your door.

Hmm, When I bought my bike, the guy encouraged me into his house and showed me the immaculate shed in which he kept the CBR and his Fazer 600 S2- I also met his Wife and his kids too.

I don't think I have the balls to go and knock on his door and tell him about the problems with the bike.

In other news, I got pretty pissed at someone on the way home from work today, in a set of roadworks, on the M25, in a 50mph limit, just getting dark, and drizzling. I saw an Audi straddling the outside lane and the middle lane. Pulled alongside, and lo and behold, she was on her bloody blackberry; full on, texting (Or BBMing) with both hands.

I really don't need the stress of knowing that she was paying bugger all attention when I've got so much other stuff to work out.

Can I pick some peoples brains atm.

Me and my mate both have R6's 2001, 1999.

We have moved into a nice area so we both took off our sports exhausts and fitted them with standards ones. We both are using are bikes for commuters as well.

Our problems are the bike can't idle for more than a minute. I have clean out my airbox. while my mate has clean out airbox plus clean his carbs out. We have addjust the idle speed switch a few times with no luck either too high going to 3000 rpm or too low to cut off.

One guy says is the carbs need syncing which he has the tool for it.

A mechanic says it the shims clearance but he was going charge £ 200 but the impression he gave off to my mate did not inspire me.

Also while pulling to a light or junction and stoping the engine will still be with reving at 2 500 revs unless I pull the clutch out and then put it back in and will to to 2000 or lower then for 30 seconds then die.

    Thanks

when you first got he bikes, were the cans already fitted. ?

Sounds as if the bikes were properly jetted for the exhausts, and now the original cans are back on it's put all that out.

Your best bet is to put your race cans back on (cheaper/louder option) or get it set up on a dyno.

also check your fuel/air settings that will have changed too

How does it idle ? high/low

On later models they switched to injection, this made tuning much easier... good luck in tracking this down. your best bet is to take it to a dyno specialist.

    £100 for free!

I never want to sell privately, too much hassle. Just part exchanged my bike at a dealer for a Bandit and got a really good deal, much more then I was offered at other dealers and not far off what I paid last year.

I think I'll run my bandit for a while until I save up enough for my dream machine.

funnily enough I did keep the £100, Ended up with a ban for speeding on the R1. I sold that to a mate and turned my back on bikes. That only lasted for 6months and couldn't resist, bought a mint Ducati 748SPS. :duh:
