the flow and ebb of forum chatter getting you down Shirty? Maybe you need to take a moment out to watch some Cats on youtube? (or dogs, however you roll... Dogs are just as good as Cats, if not selectively better.)
I'd agree with this here. I'm not afraid of my geeky nature, but I do get quite irritated when what starts as a reasoned discussion resorts to mud-slinging of sorts. As lots of you know, I spend much of my day-job doing contentious work and I enjoy a (reasoned) argument very much. However, I post on here hoping for a friendly (if sometimes slightly heated) discussion in which reasoned views are put forward. I've now lost track of where I was going with this because the 'phone rang. But seriously - can't we put this silly mud-slinging, non-reasoned, fanboy-accusatory style of thread to bed? Thanks awfully.
Join the members only club to experience more. I noticed... Tiresome isn't it? Not really, it's just a bit embarrassing, like when the dog poops on the carpet whilst you've got friends around and a bit splatters on their trousers. I'm genuinely interested in these new cards from both camps as I'll be buying one in two months, so reasoned, heated debate is what I'm here for. Mud-slinging does not form part of that debate.
I'd say go for the r290 or r280x if I was buying from scratch at the moment. Not sure if I find the Nvidia cards that compelling price wise... the Nvidia 770 is the one I'd consider if any currently. Also, everybody poops. I don't play enough games to upgrade really currently. Although I fancy more FPS in Metro and probably Crysis 3 when I get enough time to buy it.
I'm currently leaning towards one of the more aggressively clocked 280s and probably another mech keyboard rather than anything much more potent.
Except that it's not new, it's based on the existing GCN tech. Not wanting argument, but i hate things that are wrong. Which is why i hate myself. If I were buying a graphics card now, it'd be a 290. 'Reasonable' price for great performance. I also can't wait to see some of the mods and scratch builds that will come out of not having to use a crappy bridge to connect the cards.
If I were buying a new GPU and money was no object? 780Ti, because it's the fastest. Rational purchase? 290, or a 280 if I was looking for the best pound-per-fps, I guess
Probably wise. Is the 280 the 7970? I lose track of all the differences between the sames. TBH 7970ghz would probably do me. 1080p is high as I go for the foreseeable future now. I can't see the PS4 and XBone will be pushing a 7970 out the ball park of extra visual fidelity any time soon. Talking £250 for Direct CU versions... either 7970ghz and or 280x
It does sound promising. (nice to have GCN now... ) But it would be nice if it worked for everyone... i.e. it isn't a case of splitting resources between direct3d and mantle. I suppose it depends on how close to consoles it is... ???
I'm just having a holiday from geek Nick while I'm working all the time and broke. It'd be great to see a new, universal API to finally usurp DX and OGL but unfortunately that would require AMD and Nvidia to share their architecture, which will never happen.
yeah. This is the issue. You piqued my interest and I've had a little google and there are quite the few mentions of something called Glide by 3dFX. Before my time really(I'm old enough, just didn't care)... but sounds like the same sort of problem. Although rather than having OpenGL, Direct3D and Glide, there will be; Direct3D, OpenGL, Mantle and the two consoles(possibly 3??? Doesn't Nintendo still exist? ) operating in the same sphere. Not an image I want to live out... It's for the pretties.
