I know most people these days use 1024x768 or even higher than that but does

anybody here represent 800x600? I remember the good old days when my monitor was

    set to 8x6.

I'd be surprised if you find anyone still using 800 x 600 on these forums. 1024 x 768 is about the norm for smaller 15" screens/laptops, but many are on 1280 x 1024 (as it's the native resolution of most 17"/19" LCDs) or higher.

My parents are still using 800*600 on their 17" CRT. If I ever change the resolution and forget to change it back, my father gets pissed. He uses 1024x768 on his 19" LCD at work though.

When it's time to replace their PC, I'll get them a 19" or larger, and thus their usage of 800x600 will be eliminated. mwahahahaha

I haven't used 800x600 since I don't know when. 1280x1024 it is for me, and in games that resolution comes before AA/AF and even detail levels.

If you've a laptop with 14" or less screen it may look better than messing with larger fonts and icons in Win settings, even though it's non-native. Win hasn't really got it right when it comes to enlarging menus, etc to suit easy reading at high res.

That said, I re-designed my site for optimum at 1024x768 a while back and most sites suit that now.

Your 17 inch monitor supports 1600x1200? Thats madness! I've only ever seen 1280x1024 monitors at 4:3 ratio.

    Yea I know!
The MAX MAX resolution where I touch the 60Hz refresh rate level is at 2048x1536 (it's kinda hard to find your mouse or read text).
The rest is at 75Hz down to 1280x1024 at 85Hz.

2048x1536x32 at 60Hz (text is starting to be a bit blurry at that level.
    http://pages.infinit.net/eps/desk1.jpg

supported resolutions: (I skipped the wide screen resolutions)
    - 640x480 @ 150Hz
    - 800x600 @ 75Hz (the bad and weired)
    - 1024x768 @ 100Hz
    - 1280x1024 @ 85Hz
    - 1600x1200 @ 75Hz
    - 2048x1536 @ 60Hz
    :D

If you still don't believe me, I can take a screen shot of the monitor with that resolution with great pleasure... actually let me do that now:
http://pages.infinit.net/eps/desk2.jpg (curving is because of the camera)
As you can see, you have Everest 2006, showing my current resolution (for you to know that I actually applied the setting)

Side NOTE: That monitor was not cheap... I paid a LOT (450$ Can, and it worth every penny)

NEC says that the max resolution is 1600x1200... they are correct (if you want to be able to read text and not have a flickering screen)

Wow. Very nice monitor. I'm coping with my IBM Thinkvision, which putts a modest 8ms and 1280x1024 max. Meh.

Interesting desktop res. choice there Rage.

Personally, I use 1920*1440 day-to-day, as it's the max. resolution which can be done at 75Hz on this monitor, although it'll do 2048*1536@60Hz if needs be.

The real problem I get with this is some little ghosted lines next to sharp colour changes (like at the side of this forum, going from grey to blue), from the DVI->D-sub convertor on this graphics card. It just doesn't like high-bandwidth at all. I'd change it for a proper cable, but no-one makes a decent one (at least not one I've found). :p

I use 800x600 to play counterstrike as it's easier to get a headshot. But thats it :p

Use 1024x768 for everything else with the odd game in 1280x960

(17" CRT and yes, mine does 1600x1200 as well)

I use the same as rage. 640x480 in most games and 1152x864 in desktop. My Cheap £40 LCD only goes up to 1024x768 and i use that at either that, or 800x600 for my Samurize Config.

My monitor arm actually cost more than the monitor lol.

You'll probably find there are more people using 800 x 600 than you think.

Just think, what resolution does WinXP default to on a new install.

ALL tech savvy people will then take it higher etc, but there are a lot more PC users that are not tech savvy.

Its always been a consideration when designing a website for the 'general population'
