I would think two different boxes means that it is not box specific, but that is not my main concern as XFCE is too resource heavy to run on my box. I would like to get the ports forwarded correctly but the guide really doesn't apply for my router(Linksys) apparently so would appreciate any troubleshooting tips.

Well what I mean is that i belive that the problem is due to some standard settings in the Xubuntu sofware. What linksys router do you have? I have a linksys router myself, so mabye I can help.

I have a Linksys WRT54G version 6, with the latest firmware. I got port 2222 to forward, so if I link to http://probablyforever.serveblog.net:2222/ I can see some SSH and system information, forwarding 80 to 12345 isn't working though and I think it is because I am forwarding a range and not one to one. I can't find those settings though

Port Forward with your router, the link in the guide will most likely have instructions, unless it is my router...

Alright, can you still SSH in?

    Which ports did you forward?

Yes, I can still SSH in. Not sure why but localhost always returns "It works" , instead of index for localhost.

I have a SMC 2804WBRv2 router and follwed the instructions to forward ports 2222 and 12345

Well when you access from another machine it shouldn't be localhost it should be the ip address of the machine. Since you can SSH in you can still access the machine fine, the port forwarding just didn't work right. So undo what you did, visit portforward.com and find a guide.

From a previous entry this appears to be my problem with port forward, my router looks like this
    http://www.portforward.com/english/...804WBRV2/Serious_Sam_The_Second_Encounter.htm
I will think about upgrading the router soon, but I am still not sure why when accessing localhost from my network it takes me to the apache2-default screen

Are there any good guides for setting up azureus with the web plugin? I am a n00b so the more straight forward the better.

It shouldn't be harder then installing azureus (through Synaptic or apt) and enabling/configuring the webUI plugin?

you would think so but Synaptic has an older version and updating through CLI is still a bit new to me.

Both articles have been great, well written and easy to follow. In the future will there be a TFTP section?

Create a 'index.html' file with 'IT WORKS' as a content in /var/www/ :D

    You connected to htpp://localhost/apache2-default...

    You should edit the vhost.

I've used this and the previous guide to set up a working server, but I have one hitch. I need to be able to transfer files to be used for the website (/var/www) from my PC (Windows XP), but I can't access this directory through samba and I don't have permission to it on WinSCP. I looked into using chmod or chown on the directory, but I didn't know what I was meddling with and didn't want to accidentally create a huge security hole. How can I make it so that I can access /var/www/ from SCP or Samba?

    Thanks.

I have followed proftp script as follows. However when restarting I am getting the error which states :
Fatal: Unknown configuration directive 'AccessGrantMsg' on line 78 of '/etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf'

Below is a copy of my script.
