    first i7 rig

Just took the plunge on an i7 rig after i saw OcUK were doing an deal on the 930 i've been eyeing up :D

    Spec is as follows:

    - Intel Core i7 930 @2.80Ghz
    - Asus P6X58D-E Motherboard (Thanks to Bit-Techs review)
    - Corsair XMS3 6GB 1600MHz
    - Gainward GeForce GTX 460 GLH 1024MB
    - Corsair Hydro H70 + 2 Akasa Apache fans to replace the stock ones.
+ other goodies such as NZXT presleeved cable in white.

I'd like to try and get this to a stable 4Ghz and the beefy rad on the H70 seemed worth the extra £££, over the H50, to keep temp as low as possible.

Very much looking forward to seeing the performance increase from my Q6600 + 9800gt :D

Goodie pics will follow tomorrow after the postman pays me a visit:thumb:

Bought a couple of Discworld books:
    • 25th Anniversary edition hardback of The Colour of Magic / Light Fantastic
    • I shall Wear Midnight

Only a few short of having all of the Discworld books in hardback now.

    and Nier for the PS3

You've obviously not ben here long enough to have read all the complaints and problems that bit-tech members have had with OCUK in the past. That's unfortunate. My advice would be this; be very careful when putting that PC together and very gentle with your overclocks. If you have to RMA anything to them, you're screwed.

Admittedly I have seen some of the negative feedback OcUK seem to get around here but my personal experiences with them have been nothing but positive :). I must have handed over a couple of grand now to them, both before and after I joined Bit-Tech and using the philosophy "If it aint broke, don't fix it" i'm happy to keep using them for now.

I've not used Scan yet, but judging from the glowing reviews found here I know where i'll be headed if things ever did go tits up

Well in that case, all I can say is I'm glad to hear that at least some of their customers get the correct service and treatment (and that you're one of them) and enjoy your new rig. I made the same move as yourself from a Q6600 and 9800GTX to an i7 920 and GTX 260 about a year ago and couldn't believe the difference :)

Thank you very much :). And thats just what I needed to hear with the Q6600 being such a good overclocker I was a little uncertain as to whether the difference would be that noticable!

I don't suppose someone could point me in the direction of some rough bios settings for achieving a 4GHz overclock to use as a starting point????
