WOOOOOOW!!! You´re a genious!! Great design and fine craftmanship... This is one of a few steampunk projects that I accutally find really interesting. Most of the steam mods out there are just gearwheels clymsy glued onto a painted chassis. This one rocks!!! Looove the dial!
Thanks to everybody for your warm comments! It even gives me more inspiration to carry on with my project!
Now I want to show a little bit the work with a front panel. The button Start will be situated in the centre of the decorative lattice. As you know that chrome is not acceptable in steampunk I decided to clean it off. After cleaning I covered it with 6 layers of vanish and cut out the frame of lattice. Then I made the main part of the front panel. Then I did sanding, drilling, sawing, and connected everything together. The work with a front panel is to be continued... Here is one of the main part of this mod - THE TURBINE! As the blue backlight and low fan speed didn't satisfied me I desided to replace the blades onto different fan and make new backlight. The replacement turned out well and everything works! The backlight; That's how the TURBINE looks like with a blowhole. Hopefully to see you soon!
Very nice so far! I love steampunk and this is showing a lot of original ideas. I also can't remember how long ago I saw a motherboard like in the early pictures, slot mount CPU and ISA slots!!
It looks really good... The turbine and button panel looks perfect. I don´t know what I think about those organic plates(copperplates?) but that´s just my taste. Keep on punkin'!
hdd led pinout on MB send aprox. 3-3.5v (AFAIK) when hdd active so replacing led with simple analog voltmeter (5-10v max) are easiest way adding some "tech" style and getting "old" (from 60's) voltmeter is direct way to steampunk or retrofuturistic mod
Beautiful work, old-style modding just can't be beaten. Creativity at it's best. Kiitos hyvin paljon, you're an inspiration. I see your case is from Valkeakoski- do you live there? But, anyway, coming from an Industrial background, more specifically a 6x 630MW Power Station, I am really enjoying this
Thank you to everybody for the uplifting comments! MrBean, I don't live in Finland. I simply found the case in the garage and the print of Valkeakoski was on the frontpanel. Xye, yes, the needle will move then the HDD is active.
