Great capture & lighting on the head-whippin action. Would you please share how you got the gig of photographing these musicians? It's been awhile so here are few I'm importing into lightroom from the recent trip: Airport shuttle bus by Neo - nimajus, on Flickr Ryanair bus!!!! Wish I had a better car, but at least the road was excellent.
What's the blend of the 2 photos? You can see hands holding onto the railings in the top of the image :/
Like everything in life, it was part connections and part talent. I had past connections with someone who became the director of the main entertainment venue at a nearby university. They were trying to promote the venue to get better entertainment acts so they needed good pictures of the current acts to promote the venue. They approached me to try it out. I had never shot concert photography at this point. I did it for free as a favor. Luckily, I came up with a few choice shots that they could really use to promote the venue. From then on out, they wanted me to shoot every music act at the venue (become the house photographer). Since then, I have shot other acts at other venues for free if I liked the act. Venues with any budget for photography around here are very few and far between so I shoot those to establish connections in the music business. You have to do that a lot hoping it will pay off in the end. Let me know if you need any help/advice, I'm glad to help.
Agreed, it's certainly not exactly how I'd like it. I'm not happy with the phone line running through the middle either really. Thanks for the feedback
I like the power line as well. I think it really adds to the composition of the image. Thanks eddie_dane for the info. Really good to know how other people get gigs doing photography. Much appreciated! There's a glass/plastic dividing the camera from the bus driver. The divider reflects the people behind me, but since there is so much light coming through the front window of the bus, the reflection gets killed thus cutting the people off. I SAW AN IL-38! Only ~40 of these remain in service and the Indian Navy operates five. They're a pretty rare sight around here because the government does really like showing them off at air shows and parades and stuff for some strange reason. Maybe because when they do, they crash. Anyway, I was pretty psyched even though the photo was pretty rubbish. Indian Navy Ilyushin Il-38SD by angad84, on Flickr And then there's some random shots from the rest of my trip to goa. Your brother had a pretty wicked job That plane is the Soviet answer to the P-3 Orion, which is why it's so similar.
@stonedsurd: while I like your plane shots, cause I just love planes.. the one with the women with a hat is an absolutely gorgeous photograph. From the details, bokeh, colors & overall composition. Good job! @GregTheRotter: now I really want to go a racing event... miss my one & only F1 experience. Those shots are fun, love the banged up minis & germans too... Is that one mini going in a ditch in the back of the frame? @KidMod: Beautiful god ray photo! @Silver51: The whole night sky/stars series makes me jealous. Great job!
