I wasn't pin pointing those particular watches as serious cash I just happened to decide to look when i saw some of the nice watches in here and my taste tends to edge to more than i can afford in 3-4 months of pay
You could get an old Seamaster on ebay for about 300 quid if you're careful. I'm bidding on a broken one at the moment, quite excited.
So I'm continuing my £49.99 streak at Argos after my Timex purchase three years ago - today I picked up this beauty and I like it so much that I decided to "do" a nice photo of it:
Indeed, there's been quite a few on ebay in the last couple of days. Also managed to find a copied Franck Muller listing that's obviously fake. Gone to 500GBP in less than a day. :/
I found my Granddads watch its seen better days, not being touched for a good twenty years. I always remember him wearing it and would really like to get it back working. I've given it a quick clean to get the worst of the grime off. Currently it has no movement I've only wound it a couple of times to see as i dont want to damage the mechanism. The strap I think has had it which isnt a huge issue. Can anyone shed any light on these and how I can look at getting it repaired?
My Seagull 1963 arrived yesterday, just took a quick pic: Seagull 1963 by George.Yoda, on Flickr Loving it so far, going to take me a bit of getting used to wearing a watch again, added to the fact I'm going to have to wind it up
Careful not to overwind it. It doesn't ratchet once it's completely wound like newer movements, nor is the feedback too precise. Just pay attention and all will be well. Congrats! Mechanical chronos are truly fun.
How many rotations would you recommend then? Having never owned one before I've no idea how it should feel when I'm overwinding.
Very nice, really looks the part George. Just don't get yourself looking at other NATO straps, I've ended up liking far too many of them.
On the ST19, the lever (for lack of a more accurate term) that winds the mainspring would jump the winding mechanism and the watch would need repair. Common symptom of overwinding is that the crow will unwind as soon as you let go of it.
Thanks, now that I'm starting to work through some photos again hopefully I can take some really nice ones of it at some point I wouldn't mind a different strap, while the green isn't bad might be nice to get something a little bolder, where have you been looking? I'm currently looking at something like: http://www.natostrap.com/Home/Apollo.html#5
That's exactly where I've been looking along with Ebay. I did see an article where the user bought a wine red and white one which looked brilliant!
Also, I think I may have just landed myself into a money pit. Especially if I find the steampunk watches I've been searching for... http://www.watchismo.com/
I deeply apologise for this triple post, but I was wondering if any of you could tell me how easy the Seagull is going to be to get serviced or repaired if I ever need to. I read up somewhere that the movement is a copy of a Venus 175 or similar, and I'm not sure how common a movement that is in terms of parts availability. Any help would be appreciated. Also managed to get a new display caseback for mine, much prefer it to the old one.
