The Milky Way over Grasmere, Cumbria. The Andromeda Galaxy M31 can also be seen towards the left of the frame.
That's lovely Pook, from the telescope I assume? I need to have another crack at star snapping next time we get clear nights, I'm only 30 mins away from some very dark countryside.
Nope. D800 with 24-70mm f2.8 set to 24mm. 20 secs, ISO6400 @ f4 single exposure. Thanks for kind comment
No need for a dark frame with a single image, and such a short exposure. No NR in camera as I shot RAW, but some NR in Lightroom. Not much though... the D800 is pretty good at high ISO.
I'm truly jealous of your dark skies, Pook. One of the many downfalls of living so close to one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country is that it's hard for me to see a sky like that. Nice work on the photo. The fact that you got that much universe in a single exposure is impressive.
Truly impressive shot, Pook! I've thought about giving something like that a go, but there is far too much light-pollution in this area for it to work. Anyway, have a dose of cute:
I spent last weekend in Iceland - a country you could spend a year in an still only capture a fraction of the amazing images available. Wow, Material, those are some cracking shots. Iceland is one of those bucket list places for me. I was looking at the photo of Strokkur erupting, and while the whole image is nice I got drawn in to the bottom 20-25% of the picture. I love the way the water is draping down and then fanning out into so many different shapes, and I find myself looking over that part of the image more than any other part.
Cheers, and I agree about the Strokkur image - a shot of a geysir is one of them things you have to get, but I'm not sure it's the most interesting shot in the world.
Great shots Material, better than what I managed! How did you get on? I see you did hire a car then? I hope you found that it was worth doing so. It's an amazing country that's for sure.
My boss was one of those stranded there when the volcano went off. He convinced one of the local nutters to take him to the volcano in a light plane, and got some truly amazing shots. (His shots, not mine, so can't upload, sorry.)
We drove out to a local farm today to pick strawberries. There were so many strawberries that it didn't take us long at all to fill two 10 lb buckets.
