£1000 gpu with a £1700 CPU fun times lol.

Welcome too crazy land, it's a rather rapid turn around, they have managed to launch 4 gpus inside 3 months good going for them.

Gives them at least 5 months of free high end sales time, at which point they could then launch a 1080ti. Or maybe a Titan TI for £1500.

    Vega 10 for £600 Vega 11 for £999 anyone ?

You actually might not. Guru3D have reported that it is only available to system builders. So Dell, Alienware etc. Whether this is true or not though?

However many sites have reported you can only buy it from Nvidia's website. Seems they're cutting out the middleman completely on this one and going for full greed at 200mph.

It's also missing some shaders apparently, so fully expect a Titan X Black to show up six months later with HBM on it.

i'm not surprised there's no hbm2. can imagine that would cause a headache with drivers trying to optimise memory usage for this one niche card, when 12GB at 10Gbs is plenty. also imagine the price if it did have hbm2! :jawdrop:

People wanted low-level APIs, people got low-level APIs. That low-level means reducing or eliminating architecture-agnosticism seems to get forgotten in the misplaced "DX12 is better than DX11 because plus one!" hype.

On the plus side of the new wallet-demolishing Titan X: a larger GP102 chip means there is the possibility of a 1080Ti arriving at some point this year. Any GP100-based chip would likely not have turned up earlier than next year, behind the queue of the NVLink P100 and PCIe P100 cards.

The 1080ti will come when AMD reply, if they reply. Not before IMO.

I said earlier in the thread that Titan P (now X?!) would come out once Nvidia felt that they'd mopped up as many 1080 sales as they could.

They will now keep this $1200 card as their top of the range (because it's much better than a £500 top of the range card with much more profit) until there is a competitor. Why would you sell something the same only 30% or so cheaper? They'll hold on IMO.

Especially as they have totally removed the middleman and will get every last cent out of each sale.

Interesting that the Titan X's core count has gone up by 1.4x (2560 to 3584) but the die transistor count has gone up by 1.66x (7.2B to 12B). Normally you;d expect the ratio to be the same or smaller (due to fixed die area overhead), but for it to be larger indicates that GP102 is using more transistors per SM than GP104. On the other hand, that's less transistors per SM than the P100 (15B vs 12B total for the same core count). If the NVLink interfaces are unusually large (like 1.5B transistors for each 4x path), then a GP100 with NVLink lopped off entirely could constitute GP102. But that would make the PCIe card GP100 an almost pointless stopgap (unless you really NEED the bandwidth of HBM for your workload). Could be a GP100 die but with the DP cores yanked out as well as the NVLink interface, but still using the smaller SM partition and vec2-capable FP32 cores of 'big pascal'.

And anyone not expecting this has managed to ignore every Titan for the last 3 1/2 years. There is no reason to buy a Titan for gaming unless you hate money and REALLY NEED to be the fastest for a few months.

Sounds like a good business model, similar to Steam.

Depends how slow AMD are, if they have not released Vega by March next year you could well see the TI card out before Vega.

The pascal titan x. I bet people are going to find it difficult to game with their e-peens blocking their 4K 3 monitor setups.

If you have the spare cash why not, on forums like this there's plenty of people with the cash to burn on such cards.

I am happy with the single 1080 @ 4k. I got the last titan x and the ti dropped 4 weeks later. I'll wait for the 1080ti and Vega.
