    Cheers guys.

From tests so far it doesn't look good, she doesn't look good and she's just not eating enough.

In theory we could put her under the knife to see if it's a something that can be removed but she probably wouldn't survive as she's so weak and it would be unnecessary trauma for her. Then after that she'd probably just drag on for a bit.

Stuck in the limbo of wanting to give her the best chance but not wanting her to end up suffering.

Yeah, I'll probably have verbal diarrhea for a while. None of us have slept properly in a couple of weeks...

Anyway, see how this week pans out.

E: The thing is, I sometimes think she's uncomfortable and then a bit later she looks comfy as anything... Rollercoaster

We had a similar situation with our eldest cat last summer.

She was definitely getting more and more lethargic (and not just because she was 18 with arthritis), she was less and less interested in food, she wasn’t taking her hyperthyroidism medication, she was losing weight alarmingly fast, and she’d picked up a nasty UTI because less wet food means less water… But she could still be be as bright, perky, and affectionate as the day we adopted her.

Cheers @Byron C , it's good to think about it in context.

She's as stubborn as her two monkey parents.

She even bolted out into the garden a couple of days ago only to return wide mouthed panting and wobbly from doing too much. :duh:

E: She's such a head cracker. My OH came back and kitty had a nibble on some fish supper and was then all purring for her.

    Thanks mate.

I think we'll be calling someone out this week so at least it'll be at home (the vets is always traumatic for her).

She ate bits several times last night but on at least one occasion had several minutes of dry coughing followed by several more minutes of, what sounds like, pained noises. Not the first time.

She's so thin now. Think we may have to decide this week.

Copious tears have been flowing from us monkey owners. As to be expected.

Woke up Saturday with some nasty pains in chest, did the man thing and left it, Sunday it was still bad and had blood in my phlegm.
Thanks to the girlfriend being very tactful in her advice and a call to 111, went to A&E. Having had a heart attack 5 years ago and this being chest pain got me some priority service, moved to same day emergency care unit.
    Bloods, xray.....pneumonia!!!!
Testing me for any immune system issues as I had a chest infection in Jan

Not had a much sleep since this this started, everything hurts, can't eat, hunger aches, girlfriend is stressed (long distance)

    Fun times

UPDATE: Just had an ultrasound, fluid build up around the lungs is causing the pain, mild concerning:worried:

    Kitty's getting worse.

She's so weak, coughing after any tiny bit of food has now developed into coughing after a little sip of water.

Wheezy heavy breathing. Poor thing is so thin and going downhill.

We've booked in a final home visit for tomorrow. We don't want to add the stress of her going to a vet's practice and at least we can be with her as the sedative kicks in. Think I'll leave the room when they do the final injection.

I am trying to distract myself as much as possible but I'm in bits really. TBH I have been the past two weeks plus...

    It's a wrench after 18 years.

We did the same with ours: a last meal of his favourites, some snuggles, and then a visit from a specialist vet. The rest of the family retreated upstairs, but I stayed with him until the end. Not going to lie, it was difficult.

I'm not sure what I'm doing yet, whether I'll just snuggle her as she drifts to sleep on the sedative or stay after the following injection.

We'll be with her while she's awake at least.

But yeah, none of it's easy.

And, typical, we've now run out of tissues.

Went up into the loft yesterday to fit the floor trims and be done with it.

Pulled a calf on the ladder, f it hurts. Tried my painkillers (10ml co dydramol) nothing. Tried erm, someone else's (30mg codeine x 2) nope.

    Sucks ass.

If nothing else, that ought to take your mind off your calf.

I just arrived in Paris, I'll leave again tomorrow afternoon. Between now and then I'll have to have a few not quite horrendous but definitely not nice talks with members of my team about their performance and motivation. While at the same worrying about my one team member in the Netherlands because she's asked to reduce her working hours and my boss (our CEO) tries to talk her out of it. Without involving me in his talks with her.

I know that's what I signed up for when I took the team lead, but I still don't have to enjoy that part of my job.

My partners dog had some sort of brain seizure and couldn't walk, eat, just laid down with his poor head bobbing like he was on the waltzer. I went with my partner to the vets, they took him to a different room to put a line in his arm. My partner held him as they did the injection. Didn't expect him to move his head and stare deep into my soul as the plunger went down, I watched the light leave his eyes.

Have to be honest, it wasn't pleasant and my partner was devastated.

I can watch all sorts of horrible stuff on the internet, but when it's close and personal, it hurts just all that bit much more.

It's very easy to say that "you're doing the right thing", or "it's what's best", etc, but that doesn't make it any easier at the time. I was with our cat when she went under, my other half couldn't face coming in so she'd stayed in the car. I'm glad at least one of us was there, but it was damn hard.

Had one of our rabbits die in my arms a number of years ago. Only time I've ever heard a rabbit make a sound. Gut wrenching but glad I was there. We didn't even know she was ill until a few minutes before it happened.

    *raises hand*.

I was the other half. When my Hurley Lou Lou piddle and poo poo had to be put to sleep I couldn't. I.Just.Couldn't.

I just froze in the car park and remained glued there until it was over. It was for the best though. She had corona, and her lungs were filling with fluid :(

Me too, exactly the same. I went to feed him one morning and he had had a stroke and was jerky. I held him for a while and he made a load groan with his mouth open, like a stag roaring. Thankfully he was gone a few minutes later.
Feeling for you @adidan and good luck tomorrow, never an easy moment

Thanks for the replies, I can't quite focus to read at the moment but appreciate the comments

Currently trying to distract myself randomly so as not to give myself a heart attack before the vet arrives.

Poor girl is going downhill, it does actually feel like the right time, if there ever is a right time.
