Been a long long day as we have a work experience guy here which is meant to lighten the load but.........well i'll not go there I did manage to get the custom plate stuck down followed by car filler then wet sanded ready for primer along with getting other bits primed and painted. I had a heat lamp fitted to the shed which speeds the drying time up considerably but is still a lengthy process as i was wet sanding between each coat with 2000 grit just to keep everything smooth. Next job is to chop and mod the second vent then get it mounted to the other side panel and then start trying to mask and match the blocks which is going to take time but everything seems to be looking good so far. I'm taken back with all the positive comments and feedback so a BIG thanks, its greatly appreciated. Progress today........
I'm amazed. This is so professional-looking. But what do I see here: Did your Dremel slip there? (under the front hole) But I don't think it really destroys the picture, it's just an imperfection. You're gonna do something, right?
maybe its my attraction to yellow....but the paintjob on this is so freaking awesome... makes me want to paint my car...
Do you use spray cans or a compressor for all your painting? It looks great, but I am curious to the wet and dry between coats, do you let it dry completely and then use the wet and dry to key the surface?
Frickin' awesome work.. I have a model of Rossi's 2004 bike and I may have to copy your idea. Mostly due to a preference of blue rather than yellow, but thats just me.. yours still looks sweet. TBH, I've been thinking about the colour scheme for soooo long you wouldn't believe. I think you've just given me the push I needed, besides I already have a blue CCFL.
Yeah just to clear that up i'm using a filler primer which is really thick and hides a lot more imperfections than ordinary primer so after a couple of coats of that i let it dry completely then wet sand with 2000 grit which gives a perfect base to start the colour - 4 coats of yellow then wet sanded again which gets rid of any orange peel. You can see it better on a previous Stacker how wet sanding works....... Black after sanding then After machine polished I'm using ordinary rattle cans with flat spray nozzles which are much better for getting an even layer of paint rather than the normal cone type . I got the paint from a Yamaha dealer (£47.00 per Ltr) and had a friend at our local car accessory shop to decant it into rattle cans with the flat nozzles. Due to all the overlaid graphics etc. once the whole lot is painted its going into a car body shop to have a final clear coat then into the oven and baked followed by a machine polish. @ aon`aTv.gsus666 - you weren't meant to see that the filler cap isn't actually fixed in yet but i'll get it lined up. @ Stickeh - don't do it man, that Mini of yours is perfect mate
Hehe that second pair of eyes (read: glasses) seems to work. Keep up the great work. But actually... what else could we expect from you? ;D
Really nice job on the paint, beautiful work for cans, the clear coat and baking of it should make it a real treat to lay eyes on, keep up the good work.
Got a bit more done but again it doesn't really look like much as the masking is really time consuming on top of having to wait for paint to dry but i'm a lot further on than what i was at the start of the day Carried the black blocks and white stripes through onto the front down things which looks a lot better and i actually managed to match them up pretty good Also made a start on the other side panel with a couple of coats of primer then the first coat of yellow............so all in all a pretty productive day and now time for a few beers.
