Im with everyone on this one, i did not think it would work, but you have just gone and proved me and the entire modding community wrong. gd job man . U should go to a company to see if they will make it and sell it, there is alot of people that caould benifit from this. I just dont know what else to say except gr8 job keep up the good work.
My soldering work station is more of a soldering toolbox now. I don't have much room in my apartment so everything gets packed away after I'm done. I got alot of practice doing xbox mods. All I used for this mod was a 15W iron, desoldering iron, lots of flux, rosin-core solder 0.032 diameter(any kind will do), and a sponge. I'll make a guide when I have some more free time. Dude, I knew this would work from the beginning, the only problem i saw was getting the soder exact, and not bleeding onto any other pins. How many wires is that, total? It's just...amazing work man, very professional. Congratulations!
Exactly 124 wires. Somtimes I couldn't visibly tell if two adjacent points were conected. I had to break out the continuity tester just to make sure.
WOW! that has to be the BEST case ive seen and the riser is amazing, all i can say is: CONGRATULATIONS! i cant even solder so you must br good to do all 124pins.. you should sell the design to some company coz loads of people need a riser like that..*HAIL O-MIGHTY MODDER* P2D

All I can say is I don't know how I missed this thread, but I am so glad you went ahead and did it. I can't stand it when someone gets on a forum with a challenging but awesome idea and gutless idiots talk them out of it. Especially on a modding message board. I mean what's the point of being here if the first thing you want to do with your $100+ pc component isn't rip it apart, figure out how it works, and mod it? Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now . with this and some of zap's projects i have gotten into electical circuity and i just generally make basic things atm like water level alarms and thingo's like that i'm working on putting together a few bits and peices and my friend is making a shell just so that i can make coffie and things from my PC
I'll add my '"I'm amazed this worked" post as well Good Job! Sometimes you just have to try, and sometimes it works! Me, I'd have used IDE 80-wire ribbon broken into strips of 11 for flexibility. Ground every other wire, so each strip carries 5 signals and 6 grounds. A lot of the wires on the AGP connector are grounds and power pins that's probably why your extender worked, almost 1/2 of the wires in that bundle are either ground or power, providing a return path for the signal currents. This preserves the transmission-line characteristics from the mainboard to your video card so that the signals dont get distorted.
People say that kind of stuff here because it can be helpful. If you want to spend $$$ (or in my case £££) on components and then have them perform below par fair enough. You cant really do this stuff on an expensive gfx card and expect 8x and fastwrites to work ok. They're precision parts which cost a hell of a lot to design and make. If this kind of product was truly amazing then similar commercial products would have been available a long time ago. Earlier on I was myself a nay-sayer, in part I was right, this isn't working perfectly, but for this guys needs and after a good bit of playing about it's worked out well. The people who said 'no' did it as when you think about it cross-talk and the like can play havoc with such a sophisticated device as a modern graphics card. However I have loads of respect for scifikg to get such a homemade mod to work so well, but would also like to have people respect that the reasoning behind the comments saying that this kind of thing wouldn't work are based on fact and not just made up to put a guy with true dedication down Anyway, guess waht I'm gonna do now... //gets off his soapbox
two words for how this thing is managing to work: Transmission lines. Actually, the basics of the design for this stuff isn't bad, its when you have 64 lines, each with variable frequencies on them that it gets interesting. It's all basic electromagnetic theory (oxymoron?). If somone could find a way to get some coax that is impedence matched to the AGP termination impedence, the somehting very efficent could probally be designed. But the labor in making somthing like that is the reason you don't see those in paractice at all.
I started to make another one using stranded wire, but I was bit hasty in the desoldering and lifted around 5 traces from one of the cards so I just gave up. Plus, CopmUSA has this computer right now so I couldn't test it if I wanted. Maybe if I get my computer back from CompUSA and get some more time this summer. I'll make another attempt. true dat

hey, wow!! nice work man. this has given me the insentive to resolder my AGP slot... im gonna try and get the actual slot from a riser card, rip mine off (it has broken pins..), and solder the new one straight onto the mobo.. have any tips you used? i dont mind about 4x AGP, as the mobo is AGP pro anywho (4x). cheers, and nice work!!
I have exactly the same problem myself now. (same card and positioning). the only solution I have found so far is http://www.mycableshop.com/sku/AGPFLEX-02-5.htm . This gives 5" cable but only works at 2x speed. Just wondering if you had come accross any other cable/solutions since. I'm only interested in the AGP riser as far as a MCE machine goes (playing and recording from the tv) not too bothered about games on this machine. I only found this forum after about 3 hours of searching the net for AGP riser cables
