I used to post a lot more, but over the past year or more I've become more of a lurker I guess. I generally browse the forum 4 - 6 times a week. Just don't have a whole lot to post about I guess.
I only come on here a couple times a week to look at the Demote thread, not much else going on other than that.
I've always been a bit of a lurker, I tend to post when something peaks my interest but most of the time I let the world slide by. Anyway, as the saying goes “It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt”
Been lurking here for 10 years or so. Finally registered 4 years ago. To many things going on in my head simultaneously to concentrate on something as simple as getting around to posting
Who still lurk ? If you have something to say, just speak your mind. Shirty, I always liked this hight hat, it make you look respectable.
It was originally supposed to be a Scrooge hat (my festive stance is fairly negative), but I agree it makes Satan look like a gent.
I tend to avoid frivolous posting as much as possible. I am actually a pretty outgoing person so I'll read through many discussions and then feel a bit awkward about things when I start to post something and realize that no-one in the conversation knows me all that well. So I feel like that fellow on the next table at a diner who starts involving himself in a conversation you are having with a friend. Otherwise I am pretty busy, I work as a aerospace engineer launching rockets, as well as going to school to finish my degree in electrical engineering. So not all that much time to make many posts on things. Lol, I was at Johnson Space Center a few years ago for a couple weeks, and was tempted to PM Supermonkey to see if he was around. Ended up not having enough time to tho.
Ultra-Necro™, but I've realised I've become a window lurker as I've got old. Any other old school users still lurking in the shadows, hardly ever posting? This place will always have a special place in my heart, but time, lifestyle and the ever dwindling user count mean I'm no longer the most prolific of posters. I'm still here though, watching everyone's every move
I mostly lurk. My passion is dying off for PCs etc moving to Apple silicon in the most part and other things allowing me to escape the house of kids fuels me these days. I like sitting in the shadows...
While I don't think I'm necessarily part of the old-school brigade, I must agree that I seem to have way less time than I used to. Even though my kids are all teenagers now and require far less of my time than they once did. Am I getting old?... No, no. That's not it. Must be something else
This is a very good necro. I used to post more as well. Forums have seen a huge decline in the last 20 years with social media taking over for most online social spaces. That and reddit for news and disucssing current events/interests. PC modding has also changed a lot. I remember when getting decent fans was somewhat difficult, and they weren't always wired correctly, so then you're getting Molex tools. Or when people would get acrylic sheets from the hardware store to make their own windowed case because you couldn't just buy one. Modding was compared to hot rodding, often with the aesthetic to match. I got into modding by building NES PCs. I built two and would love to do more. So much has changed in terms of small computing and 3D printing, both of which would make a modern NES PC much more capable and just better in general. I don't have a ton of money, which is the real demotivating factor for doing more builds/mods. Bills, kids, etc. My life is completely different than it was back then. But I hang around here still. I like the people and have valued the community here for so long, and maybe someday I will do another build and post it here. Maybe we should all post here more. Just make it like it was in 2005, baybeeeeee!
I've never been a prolific poster here, although I've been around in one guise or another for a very long time. But I reckon I probably post once a fortnight at most these days, maybe less. I think it's a combination of things: PC technology is less interesting than it's ever been, or rather my interest in fiddling with the technology is lower than ever. The forum is also very quiet and there are only a handful of regular posters left, so the volume and variety of posts is low. I still come back and browse but that's dropped from every day to every other day to one a week or even less frequently. It's not a forum thing per se: I'm still active on a couple of other forums that have a much higher volume of users and daily posts than here. And I guess that's instructive - the quieter the forum, the less likely people are to post, it would seem.
Oh no, not in my case. It’s quite the opposite, in fact: it’s pretty bloody hard to shut me up. Trust me, people have been trying to shut me up for over 40 years…
Old-timey poster, relatively recent lurker. Thanks to Hexy I recovered my account a few years back, and now I'm back witches!
