Somebody needs to crowdfund an operation to remove Segio Marchionne's penis from Charlie Whiting's mouth. I'm sure Mercedes and Red Bull would fund it in moments.
Didn't see it but if he was off track and gained and advantage they would have it all in the data, hard to argue favoritisn, really, come on, its the rules simple. Great race today a few nice bits of wheel to wheel.
They've just rerun Sainz doing the overtake on Perez. Sainz went completely off the track to make the overtake stick.
They replayed it from umpteen angles, Vers put two wheels and most of the car over the curbs on the inside, but the rules say all four wheels have to cross the white track limit lines for it be leaving track limits. F1's managed to end the race on a really sour note, I can see RB appealing this one.
And if you've genuinely believe had it been vettel doing that to pass hamilton or even kimi overtaking max, that the stewards would've made the same decision, then I have a bridge to sell you... [fwiw it's still probably been one of the more exciting races of recent times... even with all the 'MURICA!!!!!!!!! style BS at the start]
To paraphrase Webber, if you don;t want drivers cutting corners or running ludicrously wide, don't design circuits in such a way that such things are routinely possible.
You can loose speed by cutting corners due to incorrect line/dirty track etc, it's not always clear cut, there is definitely an reasonable argument with Webbers musings, much in the same way that replacing the air bag in your car with a spike might make you drive safer, but its clearly not the best option from a saving lives perspective.
Ah, Mika Salo - one step up from Luca Badoer, but proclaimed himself a future world champion - yeah, he's a perfect choice for driver steward.
He/they was also quick to penalise Ericsson for clipping KMag, something that would, in previous races, have been shrugged off as a 'racing incident'...
Look - Gaining an advantage from that is the clincher in Max's penalty. The fact that neither Horner or Max contest the fact that they went off track is pretty damning in one half of that discussion. The 5s is fair enough. The Penalty point is a bit dumb, IMHO though. I think right now, Lewis is in a class of his own not only in driving skills, but also in terms of race craft. His words after the race about seemingly being aware of Seb shredding tyres for no real effect was (provided it's not just hot air) a testament to this. Max drove brilliantly, but it's becoming apparent that some of the drivers are just not great. Bad luck for DanRic - I would have liked to see what he could have done.
Sound like poor camera angles on TV as the stewards claim that Verstappen had "gained a lasting advantage by leaving the track, with all four wheels clearly off the track by at least half a metre, and overtook [Raikkonen] in doing so." Sound pretty clear cut, no pun intended, the guy doing one line is on a different track to another, my crude example image
The Formula1 YT channel also put all the angles of the overtake on. He's off the track only for a VERY short while, and most cam angles don't show it properly, but it IS visible.
