You can't have too many tools Cheaps, you can run out of space, but never too many tools! I'd like it if my workshop was one of the massive hardware warehouses.
A logical solution would be to use the CNC as a valid excuse to create more workshop space. "Honey, I could make things and sell them. A 24' x 24' workshop would pay for itself" - john
I wouldn't be. If i lived over again id buy a x2... the gecko 540 would have saved me almost $400 if not more (the g540 can run the lighter z axis of the x2- but not the heavy head of the x3) and save me HOURS and HOURS of wiring. You can then buy a cncfusion kit which i did and love, or spend a lot of time machining and get hoss's kit for much cheaper (he turns the ballsrews for you) and its a pretty easy hookup. yer mate its totally worth it try to sell the ras on craigslist
That's a no-go. The lot's maxed out. Every time I clean a spot out of the garage, something sprouts up in the clean spot. @Bobby - He's in one of those '-fornias'.
i hear ya. FYI you can cnc a x2 for crazy cheap im from Los angeles for the next year then im off to school redid most of the wiring. lot less clutter now
teyber u be interested in cnc'ing some stuff for me? im gonna be needing some stuff made for this new case im gonna build its gonna be a futuristic design so i need some 1 off stuff...?
i will im just talking to him to make shure he can do what im needing and he is willing to do what im needing...
big day, this morning i purchased dolphin partmaster pro- which is a combination cad/cam program http://www.dolphincadcamusa.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8&Itemid=7 woot!
Angel's been MIA for a while - I even sent him a birthday card. Sad. Maybe he will be back soon. He's laboring under the delusion that a mod can be finished. john
How much do you think it would cost to convert a Grizzly? (Not the tiny one, the next one up.) I think your rig could be fitted into a dead washing machine for wet cut work. You just need to worry about getting cool air to the motor.
thank you carsacfancis! cheapy- which one? lots of different companies sell the basically same mill, grizzly offers the best warrenty and service after you buy. the actual manufacturer or the mini mill or similar (er most of them) is sieg- and the common ones are the sieg x2 and the sieg x3. http://www.grizzly.com/products/Mill-Drill/G0463 this is the x3 http://www.grizzly.com/products/Mini-Milling-Machine/G8689 this is the x2. note you can get these cheaper. The x3 is a much more rigid powerful, and larger machine but its costly to cnc because of its very heavy head. why?- there are 2 types of stepper motors we use. the nema 23 and the nema 34. the 34 is much stronger but requires much more amps. Long story short, the x3 z axis needs a nema 34 to move it - why does THIS matter? (lol im describing in a nested loop) because there is a FANTASTIC controller called the gecko 540 which is a "miniature" version of my VERY expensive controllers. It will not, however, run nema 34 motors. http://www.hossmachine.info/cnc_conversion_cost.html add some money for screw ups, and if you don't have a nice metal lathe you will want to get the cncfusion kit. Also, you will want the g540. Keep in mind, it seems a lot more expensive to get g540's but the kit shown includes 4 motors versus 3 motors. So call it ~ $1000 + mill + tooling + computer + software (mach, you can hand write g-code for simple programs) Hope this helps. edit: i will never copy someones work
cheapskate- http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=44991 pm me your email address and ill forward you a 20% off coupon at hf. btw you will be amazed what you can make with the mill MANUALLY and nice tooling like a rotary table o wait you already one one
I'm not buying from HF after what they did to me last time. I'm betting they wouldn't honor the coupon if it came from someone else too. -So... a full-size machine would cost a lot more to convert. Will your rig still have manual control when you are done? Or do the steppers with cranks on them cost even more? -Keep in mind the more we talk about it, the more I think I'll wait.
