:nono:...No this thread is not dead

I reckon I failed doing an unleaking waterboard with inapropriate materials, and I finally realised that this project was not smartly thought, it wasn't suiting my desk-space, It was disproportionate, and I couldn’t wait anymore to use this hardware as it is needed to store and backup my tremendous amount of datas…… So I went back to aircoling and used it for a while with a temporary layout, witch finally became this new project, with the same purpose, almost the same hardware, less watercooling and displays but a more practicle and ergonomic design.

So on the previous page, I mentioned about this old Mozart TX case someone offered me, and I found it really ugly…(sorry thermaltake)…

I was about to through it away and I started to strip it down, picking up some screws or possibly useful parts, when I realised that what was left was pretty well thought, it was full aluminium, and could be the foundations of a new datamaster.
I had to cut out a part of the fragile and unuseful front
    [IMG]
the back panel has got a removable backplate, very practicle, you can also see the new fan grills I want to use
    [IMG]
Started by cutting out previous fan grills
    [IMG]
There is one last to cut...
Then I cut out an aluminium plate from this 1.5 mm one
    [IMG]
and placed 4 additional 1 meter alu profiles on the corners to match the correct height
    [IMG]
With one of the doors, I made another plate to replace the missing front one
    [IMG]
but bear in mind it will be invisible, hidden behind a grill..

Then I started to build the first floor, it will support a large part of the weight, so I made it as sturdier as possible
    [IMG]
It will strengthen the motherboard tray as well
    [IMG]
The 1200 watts PSU is not enough power for this configuration, so I added a secondary PSU, there is room for it under the Bequiet one...
but I didn't buy one, I have so many old dusty "noname" ones here:happy:, I spotted out one matching my needs, with a lot of sata plugs
    [IMG]
It just need some cleaning, some paint and a new Bequiet fan
    [IMG]
The icy on the cake is that this old PSU was mounted on a case with this bracket
    [IMG]
So I used it to make the opening
    [IMG]
    better :thumb:
Then I worked on the back panel again to place more fans and grills because it looks a bit naked on this side
    [IMG]
    et voila
    [IMG]
I didn't like those strange openings so I cut them out ...
I made this instead, perhaps I will make it different later, but I prefer the look of it it without the openings
    [IMG]
Then with the second door, I cut this little plate
    [IMG]
it's going under the first tray to make it cleaner from below
    [IMG]
    Then I placed 2 sliders
    [IMG]
and made kind of a drawer for the fan controllers
    [IMG]
The red arrow shows little feet to support the first floor
    [IMG]
I done this because I already tried with the fan controllers on the top of the case, it's definitely easier to link, but not satisfying me in terms of design... I prefer it down, so this drawer will only be used once to link the wires but it is compulsory... :hehe:
Then I started to build the frame to hold the disk cages, with 4 legs out of a 1cm square alu profile, screwed on both sides, but resting themselves on the "L" profiles riveted on both sides too
    [IMG]
Then I made like a bridge witch is very strong and has the advantage to let the fan openings uncluttered by alu bars passing through ...
    Placement of the first cage
    [IMG]
Then I started to build a frame to center all the cages and hold them tight
    [IMG]
I use the fan's mounting screw holes to fix the frame so I won't be able to put 120 mm fans, I don't care, there will be enough room, may be for smaller ones...
    some pics with the PSUs
    [IMG]
The disk cages overlap fans but slightly and there is exactly 2 mm of clearance for the nut  if that isn't luck
    the front part
    [IMG]
    to be continued
    thanks for watching
    cheers everyone

    LIFE !
You really should get this moved to the project logs. It's gotten really quiet in there lately.

Thank you Cheapskate...well, I had the same thought about the lack of activity on BT , certainly due to the present situation in the world :eyebrow:, but that's why I choose to unwind with modding
As to move it to PL...let's wait until it's near completion...

 what can I say......I am sorry, it's still in the basement but I can't find the motivation to work on it, actually, my life is busier than ever, and I am totally overwhelmed, between my personal life and my work, my house and the computers to fix or optimise for customers likewise some standards builds, sometimes , so i'm the guy who starts too many projects and put some of them aside, that's why I stash my logs here instead of PL :hehe:
But my server is too imortant, I am using it almost every days, as I am writing this it is actually working in the state it was on last pics, and I am longing for my july holidays to finish it.
As for my other projects, I still want to believe I will end them before it loses all interest, some are used differently waiting for some miracle to be finished...but for the desk, I fear it won't be this year :sigh:
