So this is pretty off topic but anyway. I find that if I wake up from an alarm I am grogey and just want to go back to sleep, I learn to turn my alarm off without really waking up for more than a few seconds. I am tired for a few hours at the beginning of every day and struggle to get going.

If I leave my curtains open, and I wake naturally from the sun coming in, I feel eager to start the day and its so much easier to get up. For me personally the difference is huge!

Ive been looking at dawn simulator alarm clocks as its now pitch black when I need to get up. They seem to vary in price from only £12 to about £150.

Anybody care to recommend a good one? I do want a good quality one but I dont want to overspend...

    Thanks guys,

Philips does several. It likes to churn out these types of lifestyle products on occasion. They're not bad, and actually look reasonably nice.

No kidding here, Back in my bachelor days I once (for a week) used a modified line out from my alarm clock speaker, into the line in on my monster Technics amp and KEF speakers, Left on almost full volume before i went to sleep.

It worked for two important reasons,

    A. It scares the **** out you, and out of bed.
    B. The speedy dash to get to the damn thing and turn it off before it wakes the whole block gets adrenaline flowing.

Cold water on your balls also works wonders, it will wake you up.
A good breakfast and a run also helps.

    That phillips clock looks good.

I bought a philips HF3470, it didnt wake me up this morning as I had set the brightness to the minimum setting! The full brightness setting is pretty bright though so will see how it works tomorrow.

Yeah Ive been meaning to get one for a while, but been put off as they are very expensive for what they are to be honest. But if Im not a zombie for half they day then its money VERY well spent. Be careful as some of them dont even have a replaceable bulb! I made sure I got one with a £6 replaceable bulb. I paid £80 for it, you can get them for as little as £12 or so on amazon but the reviews say they are no good basically!

Glad it works for you. I'm surprised that it comes with a bulb, given that Philips is a pioneer in LED lighting. Perhaps you can retrofit one.

I think some newer ones are LED, but you would need several to make it bright enough, this has a 100W halogen car bulb inside.

Ah, OK; it's made to go BRIGHT then. :) Well, a car bulb is cheap and pretty generic at least.

£6 for a car bulb? Sweet mother of goodness. I get mine from a unit just down from where I work, a place called Exhausts Unlimited. They do car bulbs for about 80p each - certainly under a quid each. It might be worth a quick scout around on yell.com or google maps to see if there's something similar around your way.

yup. There is a more expensive one that comes with a usb socket so you can wake up to your own mp3 playlist.

I'm definitely intrigued. I always snooze for about half an hour before finally dragging my arse out of bed in the morning.
