after getting really fed up attempting to paint white over a black basecoat, im tempted to ditch the idea of going Templars and switching to Iron Hands ( for the 6+ feel no pain cheesecake ) as silver is a hell of alot easier to paint than black

plus i have a fair amount of silver left over ^_^

the only issue is a few of the tanks i got off Lira have the FW templar Doors
would that look to out of place ?

also did a total of all my Marines points thus
once i add the finishing bits to my army ill be pushing 5k points :jawdrop:

also Lira id like to steal some more Bits from you ( mainly chainswords and bolt pistols for my assault Squad ) and a few bolter arms and a pair of marine legs and a couple of Rhino Rear Hatches if you have them ^_^

White over black is easy. The new GW white covers great. Whatever paint you use though, you will have to do a lot of thin layers to get it smooth and solid.

Best way is to batch paint, especially with the rank and file guys. Paint a block of 5 or 10 at a time, by the time you have got the end of the line, number 1's shoulders will be ready for the next coat.

also what would you guys reccomend for AA ?
the Stalker / hunter seem like a pretty good bet, but ive heard alot of people rave about a dev squad with flakk missiles and also twin autocannon venerable dread's

Reasonably delicate like most flyers but with BS4 and LOADS of high damage weapon options, you can't really go far wrong

I used to play W40k in my youth, and when I stopped playing/painting it all went in the loft. Is there a market for old stuff or is it worthless as its old and painted (not v.well lol)? Mainly Space Marines, but some other races too.

Depends how old it is, really.

Got some OOP metal figures and you might make enough to make it worth selling them. But we'd need some pictures to see what you've got and see what's worth the effort of selling!

The second hand market can be great if you happen to have some of the more rare old bits and pieces. Some of the parts which weren't very popular when they were in production can go for quite a bit now, the Gorkamorka and Necromunda bits come to mind.

Does it matter if they are painted? If I remember some were metal and some plastic. Most of it was done "by the book" but some had small changes done (as I got more adventurous). I had 2 Necromunda squads actually, thanks for reminding me! I might have to dig about and find it all and make a list. Age wise it would be probably around 1995 to 2000 at a guess.

Paint isn't usually an issue, we're all well versed on removing it in this hobby!

got all my marines out ( including a few new arrivals from ebay.

    currently got

    6 tactical squads

    2 command squads

2 devastator squads ( 1 with 2x plasma and 2x hev bolter, other with 4 flakk missile )

    1 dreadnought

    2 - 5 man assault squads ( with a jump Chaplin )

2 - 10 man assult squads without jetbacks

    5 assault terminators

    1 razorback

    3 rhinos

    2 whirlwinds

    2 predators

    2 land raiders

    1 land raider crusader

    and one vindicator
thinking of what to get next, more dreadnoughts are on the cards atm then ill fill up on rhino's and drop pods to have a full mechanized force, then expand to include fliers

Nice, that looks pretty much like the load I currently have for my Templars. Must get them lined up for a group shot sometime.

I think you need to grab some flyers

yeah, although when i was really last into the game, it was early 5th ed, so flyers were not even a thing at that point ( out side of FW anyway )

the only recent-ish model i have is the drop-pod

need to get some games in, but severe anxiety is crippling me atm and im finding it hard to even get outside my house on my own

also need some spare parts ( a couple of bolters, few pistols, arms and shoulder pads. ) Lira has a HUGE bitz bag i plan to raid when he stops frantically fapping to his titan and answers my messages :p

also just picked up 3 dreads for a tenner each ( they will need stripping though )

Been working like some sort of slave today, I think a titan sparked my hobby interest!

    Most of the armour panels background is done now;

Going to be Legio Astorum (Warp Runners). Blue flame as homage to the original fire all over, but I'm going to do real fire over the head and "under armour" for the top panel and the undercarriage.
