Nope!* Instead, it's applied as multiple hits to a unit, with an extra hit for each five models are in the unit. *Okay, there are some, such as the Deathstrike.
Templates went the way of the dodo in 8th ??? i think Officially its to ''speed up the game'' but unofficially GW got sick and tried of people throwing bitchfits over if that template hit 7 or 8 models, and having metagamers spend all morning on their movement phase to ensure that every model is exactly 2inches apart there are pro's and cons to both sides, Templates helped break up the monotony of roll dice, roll more dice, then roll those dice again, now opponent rolls dice, and they did help to work out VERY quickly who was a Metamoron, and in my experience helped weed metamorons out of the community as people who argued the toss over every single template quickly found nobody wanted to play against them and thus either had to chill out, or move into other groups of course this does mean that even Titan sized Quake cannons can only hit a single target, even on a board that looks like that only 1 squad can be hit, even if there is a squad basically sitting in the first squads lap now, which is really rather stupid it also means you dont get the epic moments where a template scatters off the target and onto something else, be it friendlies, or a command squad you couldnt target off the back, some of the best story moments ive had is watching a template scatter onto my own units, or straight into a mass melee where basically everything died apart from one lonely guardsman who passed a FNP, he just stood there as 6 khorne bezerkers, an imperial command squad and about 4 guardsmen all got turned into paste, and then he STILL made his leadership test, or the vindicator shot in a different game but same opponent that blew up 5 khone bezerkers, the chaos champion they were with the rhino they rode in on AND a chaos Dreadnought in a single shot, it was so epic
At the earliest it has to have been 9th because I was still somewhat active in 8th. It makes sense, but I very much enjoyed the 'oh no' of templates fired by units with the balistic skill of a rotten fish, and the scatter dice pointing back at the firing unit
Earlier this week, I remembered my brother talking about how he’d backed out of a trip to Warhammer World because the minibus driver was being really sketchy about cost and travel times. It also occurred to me that I’d booked today off so I could have a 4-day weekend. So…
i mean we could always organise something im usually down to throw some dice if the trains are nice enough to run on time
yeah, usually i can keep my money IN my wallet when i go, though it is now over £20 for a return, and a seat is not guarenteed on the Nottingham to Cardiff service, and i have actually been denied bording due to how overcrowded that service was because SOME pencil pushing moron decided to replace a 5 car HST set...with a 3 car sprinter train i think the only big thing ive got while at WHW was my Ta'unar, which in some respects, i regret ( mainly that it came covered in 3d print lines )
My brother's been into GW/WH for over a decade, and if it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't have gone; my interest over the last ~30 years can best be described as "flirtatious" . But there's some incredibly impressive displays. And not just "holy crap that's a lot of minis", but "holy crap that's an absolute crapton of incredibly impressive and detailed minis!" Will try and link an Imgur album when I've sorted the photos out. I was on photographer duty, so I took a lot... my brother gave up after about 20 minutes when he realised the camera on my 1.5yr old iPhone 14 Pro is a little bit better than the camera on his budget Motorola from ~5-6 years ago... Yeah, sorry, was a bit spur of the moment; the idea came to me on Tuesday, but I didn't really get anything 'set in stone' with my brother until Wednesday evening! 'Cos, you know, that's what normal people do: arrange a 320 mile round trip involving 6-7hrs of driving (accounting for stops & traffic) as a 'spur of the moment' kinda thing...
If you can get there, I recommend going for the store anniversary, usually first weekend of March. Me and my cosplay buddies usually go in force.
I tend to stay away from there on the weekend of the anniversary, there are more people there on a weekend than I would like as it is. But I do pop down during the week to grab the anniversary mini. Bit of a shame though as the cosplay stuff does always look cool. Back when I worked there, part of my job was to help look after what we called the museum. That had "life sized" displays that were made up from the costumes that were used for the short films that were made during the 90s (I worked there in '99) and there was a whole room full of spares for things like Marine armour and even a few Genestealer parts. Most of everything was made from either fibreglass or painted and sealed foam rubber. I remember trying on a Genestealer head and can still recall the horrendous smell of the thing. We had a few displays like that, I think there was: 1) A stand of 3 Blood Angel marines 2) A section of Space Hulk with 2 or 3 Wolf Guard terminators and a couple of Genestealers, or rather parts of as one was crawling out of the ceiling above one of the marines and the other was partly visible through the door behind them. 3) 3 or 4 Dark Eldar warriors. These were a new addition and arrived whilst I was there. They were part of some college or university art project and whilst they were pretty good, they were pretty much just painted manikins with some nicely made additions, certainly not wearable suits like the others. 4) An Imperial Guard trench section with a commissar sitting in a small command/radio bunker at one end. He had a bionic arm that I rebuilt as it had sadly fallen to pieces over the years/ This was a pretty cool display as we had it all set up with the blinky lights and smoke (if there was fluid in the machine of course...) Then there were several stands of interesting things such as an Eldar shuriken catapult with a piece of armour with shuriken embedded into it, there was a marine helmet that was fully detailed inside and out, and a couple of other things that are all a bit dim and distant now.
yeah WHW really does get busy on a normal day, on Anniversary is far to loud for me to go, i even try to avoid tournament days, because you just throw your voice out by the end of the day having to shout across a table to be heard they REALLY need a bigger hall ( not possible without expanding the building ) with some Sound proofing material to help stop the place becoming an echo chamber Ive suggested hanging up some sound absorbing tiles on the roof, and even some flags hanging from the lighting rig, but i doubt GW would go to that expense for no perceived reward ( in fact one person suggested they would avoid it, because having people shouting all day means you buy more drinks )
Yeah. Sad but true. Last year I brought 3 slabs of water just for the guys that sat behind our table, and a slab of monster for me and my best mate lol. No-one batted an eye cause they were all covered with camo netting lol
Just posted this in "What are you listening to?" and thought you chaps would appreciate this too: https://www.youtube.com/@OculusImperia If you're not familiar this gentle Irish soul explains 30/40k history as one would expect from an Archivist in that setting. Supremely relaxing, almost ASMR in most cases, but exceedingly good.
There's so much stuff that I didn't know about the Horus Humbug. Alfabusa used to be another favourite. Still enjoy his WoD stuff but regularly rewatch Emperor TTS and the audio logs.
What do you do when GW won't sell you a Primaris over powered psyker because it's a FW chapter and those are traditionally ridiculous? Why, you make your own of course. The Anvillus is still a WIP and intended as a 'drop pods look stupid but this one looks cool' proxy.
