I've also just had an awesome idea for a modelling project of a new gang. Convert the models into the TF2 classes Heavy = Heavy with Heavy Bolter (modded from a Terminator assault cannon) Pyro = Heavy/Ganger with specialist skill. Wouldn't be hard to make a flamerlook like the backburner. Scout= Juve with shotgun etc. etc. Everything comes out of it's boxes next day off! Where's my scalpel.........
Mixing TF2 and Warhammer 40K is considered heresy on the highest level sir That's not a bad idea actually... be fairly cool. Right to those who paint up models for the moment, exactly how much are the paints/brushes/models roughly?
if you use gamesworkshop supplies hobby starter set with nine paints, plastic glue, static grass, baseing gravel, clippers and a brush = £30 or buying what you need separately : paints : 2.30 seprately brushes : fine detail brush £2.80, standard brush £3.30 up to £5.10 for a large drybrush models : about £9 for a single metal model - £15 / 22 for a box set of plastic models, more for tanks you can get all the stuff cheaper online tho, wayland games and gifts for geeks are a good site for about 20% discount for example they've a custom paint set where you can pick 6 games workshop paints for £11 compared to around £14 from gamesworkshop
I remember I had a pretty awesome Scavvy gang in Necro. My Scaly had the harpoon gun and brilliantly in one game, he managed to spear 2 ratskins and also knock them back off the top of one of the highest buildings. Oh how I laughed.
BRAWL, I'd say get a small unit box, something like say a Space Marine combat squad (5 marines, multi-part kit), a can of black undercoat (spray the sprues, not the parts as you will get a more even cover), then the basic colours you need for whatever colour scheme. What is important to learn with a black undercoat is that for light colours, you will need a few layers to truely hide the black underneath, but it makes it better for receses in armour and for when you paint metal. I usually dry-brush all my metal parts, rather than actually paint them. Remember to clean your brush pretty much every couple of minutes, otherwise you get blobs building up in the hairs and you can lose the tidyness of the fine detail. b0ng0; nice due. I never played against Scavvies, but certainly did go up against Ratskins, they were complete feckers to fight as they had some funky rules. As far as outlander gangs went, Spyrers were amazing. 5 members at best, but once they levelled up a little, good lord they could shred anything. Malcadons could get a 24" charge range and have about 6 attacks in CC!
Cheers boss. I've got a gifts for geeks round the corner from me actually... so I'll pop in there if I do decide to paint something up. Tempted to just aquire say, a few terminators and go from there. Guarantee I'll end up 2500 like my chapter is >.<
Spyrers.. were they the guys who had wings? Ahh.. I'd totally forgotten about Necromunda... and Mad Donna (although I never found her that useful in games, the model looked bitchin).
Spyrers were the weird techie gang that had various types; Orrus, Yeld, Malcadon and Jakara. Orrus ended up with power armour, power shields, 'power fists', sustained fire bolt launchers and insane strength Yeld could fly, chamaleonic armour, sniper attributes. Jakara was a close combat nut that could absorb energy weapon shots and send them back at the shooter (nasty when it's a plasma weapon...), her sword got sharper and sharper as it upgraded. Malcadons were spiderman on combat drugs and a murderous attitude. They had web-spinners, could climb and surface, incredible speed and could get movement boosts very quickly to make their charge range incredible (max 24"). They all had ammo rolls of 2+, so it wasn't a case of worrying about it. However, if you lost a member early in a campaign, you were better off starting again with a fresh gang as the loss of one was hard to bear. 4 guys taking on 10 gangers was a struggle at best. Spyrers are members of the noble houses that reside in the upper tiers of the Spire who must enter the underhive and survive for a period of time to prove their worth. A gang would often have a kill limit or a time limit as to how long they would be stuck down there. You could keep veterans, but they were expensive as hell and would leave you under-manned. I always took 1 Jakara, 1 Yeld, 1 Orrus and 2 Malcadons. They were a joy to fight with.
Holy crap! I just looked at the GW website.... While the rulebook for Necromunda is available for free, they have made the prices for Specialist Games minis skyrocket! http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat490068a&prodId=prod1120141 a SINGLE Spyrer is €15!!! You used to get 2 for €10.... Insanity...
I just dug up some old White Dwarf magazines with a battle report between Escher and Delaque, the release of spyrers and the scenario for "It came from the Sump" Issues 195, 201 and 203 The sump creature is a monster to fights, it's stats were 6 across the board, but everytime it suffered a wound, the stats went down equally, so if it suffered 2 wounds its' stats were 4 across the board. It had regeneration, flesh hooks, instant-death in CC (last all your gangers kit as well) and the only way you could kill it was to force it into a cess pool. You could knock it back with weapons, I think it was 1" per hit, so sustained fire was the order of the day. The real problem was lining up your shots! I went up against it twice and lost a total of 5 gangers.... vicious...
Do not fall to the side of the Xeno! Me and a friend designed two chapters to do some writing to the past year or so... My chapter being a massive death machine and his being all stealthy. Very cool background and I wouldn't mind just painting some stuff up to be fair.
Try some of the simple kits first fella, don't dive right in with a set of Termies Alternatively, if you can't get good cheap ones in shops, get refurb ones on Ebay. If they are metal ones, even better because it doesn't matter if they are painted. Put them in brake fluid for a while and the paint comes right off
I'm just winding BRAWL up. TBH, although I collected Eldar I also picked up models from other factions, like Sisters of Battle, just to paint. Haven't seen them in a while though, I think they're in a box in the attic somewhere.
I frequently got models just for the painting element (Avatar, any greater daemons, tanks, dragons). Looks like i wasn't the only one flicking through old White Dwarves last night then lol Found my favourite ever article which i thought was a great idea. "A Tale of Four Gamers". 4 guys who had an allowance of £6.25 per week to spend to simulate an amount similar to pocket money. Really showed what you can get if you plan it out. Another couple i found were "The Gathering of Might" and "Call to Arms" battle reports......big one. Call to Arms was 48000 points of Empire vs Orcs + Goblins. 7 steam tanks!
I'll be getting a Landraider to paint, although it won't have any place in my 1500 point army, lest I re-balance it and lose a rhino.
I remember the gathering of might! Impressive one to say the least. It had Goblin Doomdivers if I remember correctly. They were awesome units. Suicidal hand-gliding goblins with really pointy helmets fired from a catapult!
