Have just enabled HDR (\r_hdrrendering 7) in far cry and i think its truly spectacular. I'm running 1280 x 1024 8xAF 0xAA Very High and Ultra High water. Running it on A64 512mbXLPT corsair and XFX 6600GT's in SLI.
Its playing at a very smooth rate will run fraps to see what.

Basically i wanted to know if anyone else is using HDR in Far cry and what sort of performance affect it has?

Do you feel HDR in Far Cry is worth not using Antiatialising?

    what drivers are you using?

    I don't find 1280x1024 with 8xAF smooth on 2x 6800 Ultra's with 71.84. ;)

I've been running with HDR for a while in farcry, and I wouldn't play without it. Runs great at 1024x768 w/ 4xAA, 8XAF on my 9800pro (512 DDR in dual channel, sempron 2400).

    lol, yeh it does!

Bigz: What drivers are you using?

I'm using 71.90 drivers. It runs completely smooth, no problems as though i was running it without it on.
I closed all unneccessary proccess before i started (especially Folding!).

Am surprised that it doesn't run too smooth on your ultra's. Have you made sure that you have changed any settings on the display profile? ( i.e. the global driver settings, or specific .exe profiles)

You aren't forcing AA or got AA on have you? because i found that it has to be set to 0 for it to run.

    Read the first post :thumb:
Bring up the console " ' " or "~" and enter the following (7 is the level of HDR, and is consider best balance, ranges from 0-11 i believe, either way have a fiddle until it looks good):
    \r_hdrrendering 7

Are you sure that it is smooth with 2x6600 GT's in the most graphic intense sections of the title?

That's a manual run through in one of the most graphic-intense portions of the title with ForceWare 71.84, as I said in my first post.

I've played the title through with and without HDR, and I'm on my third run through the title now... I do like HDR, but it's an early implementation that isn't the most efficient I've ever seen - there's too much of a performance hitch for enabling HDR. Try Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - that runs well with HDR because it was designed with HDR in mind from the outset.

Which section is it? Can you give me console insert to load that map too as i have just formatted Hdd and lost all saved games. Then i'll play it running fraps and see what i get back. I've played all of the ship and its had no problems, and its at HDR 7.

Just a side note what did you get in 3D05?

Try either Fort or Factory levels - Fort when you get in to the woods is very intensive, and the start of Factory is too.

The Carrier level is all indoors, so frame rates are higher.

The last time I ran 3DMark05 was when I wrote an article about it on the 29th September - I don't think I've ever recorded a score on the benchmark.

It requires 16 bit floating point blending, which the Radeon 9800 Pro or any of ATI's current products do not support - they are all FP24 fixed floating point. The OpenEXR file format that is used does require PS3.0 though.
