Windows Homeworld License: UPDATE Gearbox HD Remakes Release Date 25 Feb 2015!

Get a USB DVD drive. They're about £30,-- these days.

 

I've never played any of the Homeworlds, which is weird given my love of RTS and them being released when I had loads of time for gaming.

This seems like a great time to dive in. Any idea of an ETA on release date?

 

Isn't that just hand-drawn? If I asked someone to do more detail in their hand drawing, I wouldn't call that an 'HD remaster'.

 

True but I don't want to carry the drive and the CD around with me!

All I know is that it's been rumoured for a 2015 release. A shame you haven't played them yet - Homeworld 2 is THE best space strategy game there is and the original has a lovely story and excellent music.

I think I was too busy playing Total Annihilation and Dawn of War

 

Always preferred Cataclysm over HW2 as it had that bit more variety in the units rather than two sides being almost exactly the same, except that ones uses lasers and the other uses torpedoes.

 

Always liked the bored indifference when a harvester was ordered to 'harvest' resources!

No you're not I certainly wouldn't fork out that kind of money for a simple slag of resin. Give me a detailed battleship or destroyer, sure I'd think about it, but when I saw the collectors edition model I just went "nope".

 

Why does it have a power cord?

 

Because it lights up (about 4:50-5:00 in the video).

Like what I'm seeing from the presentation of the game on the other hand! Gearbox are being sensitive to the franchise maintaining the original feel of the monochrome cutscenes. Little worried Randy Pitchford refers to 'Homeworld 2' when looking at screenshots of the first Homeworld Remake!

 

No more news on the games development then?

 

Nope. Slated for a Christmas 2015 release so I wouldn't expect anything until Q3 in terms of trailers/new information.

Also agree the ship looks terrible. I'll just get the standard edition, probably digital.

SWEET! The only thing stopping me ordering it is the fact that I may be moving house and my place of work is moving to larger premises in the near future.

I can see what you're saying. As NaloaC says, I'd like it to have been another ship model (my choice would be the Homeworld 2 battle cruiser) but the old banana ship is quite distinctive.

I hope February is achieved!

 

February? Where have you seen that date? The Amazon page is saying December 2015...
