    40C or 40F? I assume F!

I wish I could leave my window open at night, but I can't for two reasons, it's right next to my bed so I end up with a stiff neck in the morning and since I live on the literal edge of the suburbs (country starts after my back yard) I get a lot of bugs flying into my room along with bats (which are annoying as hell to get them out again).

Why is your neck stiff from an open window?

Suppose I could, but there's still the problem of a stiff neck and don't tell me to move my bed cos I can't! dom... try sleeping with a cold breeze blowing onto one side of your neck for 8 hours...

I can't keep my windows open either, living in the countryside means that we get bats and insects, etc flying in. So usually during the night I end up sleeping with no covers on the bed. Although, for some reason, just having your feet out from under the bed covers seems to cool you more than having no covers.

During the day, I just keep cool with ice cream, elderflower cordial, and a hand fan :p
I've had to stop folding on my computers, though, it just chucks out too much heat into my room.

Get an aircon unit and never worry again. last year my room hit just under 40'C (its the only room on the top floor, so it gets all the heat from the rest of the house). Bought a portable aircon unit for about £100, left in in there for half an hour...20'C.

Bliss. Its now set on a timer to come on half an hour before I get home, and go off half an hour after sun down.

It's sooo hot right now! And humid like you would not believe! 40'C? You betcha! And that's in the evening, early night.

I have a ceiling fan and a wall fan, and they are almost NEVER off :p

And AC for the first three hours when I sleep ;)

I made an air conditioner of sorts.
I used an old watercooling kit I had lying around for the radiator and pump. Filled a polystyrene box with cold water and huge lumps of ice and the radiator blows cool air on me, just a shame it wasn't hot enough to try it yesterday.

Whatever you do don't buy an "air cooler" like I did last year, it essnetially evaporates cold water into the room which actually makes it worse in the logn run :p

I can honestly say that I've never felt the need to cool down during summer here. Hottest I've ever seen it here was probably about 27 C, that's about a comfortable temperature for me, much rather be warm than cold.
