you can make some pretty intricate designs using a scroll saw, I've made a few fan grill this way (out of cherry). I make the rough (relatively) cuts with the scroll saw, touch it up with a dremel, and finish it off by sanding it by hand for a long time. I've made the grill you see in the pic, an ati grill (which I broke on accident when I stuck my finger in the fan, don't ask) and an AMD grill, which was very simple. Sorry about the picture quality, the camera is in another state so I had to use my camera phone. edit: found some pics of the old grills before they were stained.
WOW That's so Awsome with scroll saw! WOW! SO nice I will check your log again to see that part Wow I get it now that it must be simple to called a mod This very much brother to share with me Thanks, Good luck. lol that finger thing was funny
here's the project log for the case, a lot of the pictures are dead, but you can get the general idea... http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=38878 It was featured on the front page of bit-tech, but that was before their UI redesign and I can't find it anymore... edit: oh yea, the tools I used for the case were: table saw band saw scroll saw jig saw dremel random orbit sander belt sander drill drill press router sand paper/hand sander
No Problem, Thanks for the link, If I want to see photo so hardly I will ask you to send it to me via email Thanks very much.
For my mod i have used: Dremel (various attachments) Orbital Sander Drill Jigsaw Needle Files Heatgun Lots of wet/dry sandpaper and elbow grease More and more people seem to be using scroll saws for detailed metal and perspex work. I have never used one myself but would seriously consider getting one if i do another mod after Apple Core Duo. Hope that helps. Cyp.
ComputerKing, just start modding, draw some of your ideas on paper , post them online for feedback, then start modding.....a dremel / hand files (for metal) / wet and dry sandpaper 400/800/1000/1200/2000 (get a couple of sheets of each), nibbler (cuts metal up to 2 mm) / jigsaw / cordless drill + drill bits. This is the basic stuff, you dont need a million dollar shed with all these tools you know nothing about, start small and the more expierience you gain from basic tools the better your knowledge in tool management will become and then you can move onto bigger and better tools. the three most basic tools you need to produce some nice stuff is a dremel,(doesn't have to be a nice one your cheap china one should do fine, get lots of sanding/diamond bit/ attachments for it), a jig saw, and a hand drill. For my first mod, i used: drill press scroll saw jig saw dremel hitachi hand drill(corded) mouse sander belt/disc combo sander compressor/airbrush files, sandpaper, angles, et cetera
