Exactly now that would be serious power saving and to be honest a reason to get onboard graphics in my next build especially if the quick sync would still work as well.

Just thinking though..... This is a path that AMD could easily follow

Actually it sounds like they're just complaining over nothing.

The installation works fine if you don't use USB 3.0 to do it with. Hardly the end of the world.

The CPU works fine except that there aren't any drivers for the processor graphics yet.

Have they used Linux before? These are facts of life. Wait a few months and there'll be an open source driver ready to be used, if Intel still hasn't gotten around to releasing one.

Why no comparison to the last couple of overclocking leviathans? I.e. the i7-920 @ 4Ghz or the Q6600? I'd imagine a lot of people will be thinking, well, the i7-950 is sorta the speed of my i7-920.. ah well :sigh:

    Still, good review.

Cause the i7-920 became the i7-930 that became the i7-950 :D
The bitter part is, the i5-2500K is comparable, and a lot cheaper :grr:

errr..Mobo's? Can I hope for a Sabertooth P67 review? (seeing the Sabertooth X58 was very sexy, and got a gold award here)

How is the ram speed calculated with the sandy bridge chips?

Wow, I'm not sure I've ever seen such butthurt density in a single article before.

Extra, extra! New hardware not working on Linux! Read all about it!

On topic: quite excited for upgrading my 775 machine with a 2500K. Performance rivaling the 980X coming from the maintream socket? I consider it a very successful architecture.

Hm, i think we need to see how would retail CPUs overclock, cuz who knows maybe Intel gave reviewers best OC CPUs. Because pro-overclockers get engineering samples very often =)

I've read alot of reviews over the last day or so and alot of the chips aren't reaching 5ghz on air. 4.8-4.9ghz on average, but a few lower than that.

Most of the "benchmarks" (most of them only SuperPI) I've seen are running 4.8-4.9 on air with pretty much acceptable temps. With a H50 and 4.6 there was a benchmark showing temps at 50°C max.

However, the 5 GHz barrier isn't broken so far as most of the BIOS/EFI revisions used don't allow for a higher multiplicator then 49, atleast this is the highest multi I've seen throughout all the tests. There's around 30 user-tests to be found on hardwareluxx.de

EDIT: Here's one more detailed benchmark from 2 month ago running at 5.1 GHz on watercooling, but that's by using an intel-board with modified BIOS -> http://www.awardfabrik.de/forum/showpost.php?p=396166&postcount=53

And a new one at 5.5 GHz watercooled, using the newest BIOS on an Asus P8P67 Pro -> http://www.awardfabrik.de/forum/showpost.php?p=405159&postcount=155 So the problem of 5GHz seems to be solved now, as there's a few others showing with over 5GHz now aswell.

After having a superb experience with the X58 Sabertooth, and a massive desire to upgrade when I get monies, Sabertooth P67 + 2500k + a couple of 580s...

I would be a very happy man. Bring that up to 5ghz and get awwwwwll the ladies.

Or none. But still have 5ghz.

Very frustrating, I just want to see all this stuff on sale in the UK so I can start dreaming properly and speccing and pricing fantasy upgrades that I can't afford, lol

Personally I don't see an issue, 8-16gb dual channel ddr3 sounds plenty to me. Wait for LGA 2011 if you're that bothered, quad channel memory.
