macroman, im trying to do the "tint" thing .... im testing on cuts of acrylic i got, but i keep getting streaks between the film and the window ... its soo annoying. i've been trying for 2 days now to get it "streakless" .... so i thought i might ask u for sum tips.. or tell me wht im doing wrong.

    1. spray soapy water on window
    2. spray soapy water on adhesive side of film
    3. place film on window
    4. spray soapy water on the film
    5. use squeegy to finish off.

wht me doing wrong.. or any tips on the above...

I'm not sure what you mean be streaks. If you mean streaky stains or marks then you are using too strong a soapy solution. Use only a couple of drops of washing up liquid per pint of water.
If you mean air bubble marks then you aren't squeegeeing (!) evenly as you peel the film backing off. Work from the center outwards. Keep squeegeeing until ALL the water is gone.

Ensure the Acrylic is spotlessly clean before applying the film. Spray and squeegee it first.

The main thing is follow the film manufacturers instructions. Different brands may be slightly different.

    Hope that helps.

    wow

This is the most awesome mod Ive ever seen. And i have looked through the whole virtual hideout cool case gallery which is like 300 pages x 10.

Ive never seen anything like this. It's brilliant. So.. that is why I have decided to do something similar for my new case.

I have a couple of questions though.

    - how did you make the LCD display?, the writing on the case effect is cool.

    - is there room for 120mm infront and back? As far as i can see youre using 92mm fans.. is that correct?

    - and how did you make that schweet rheobus?

    awesome work. keep it up.

nico - Hi and welcome to the forums.

The display is an MO VFD, not and LCD. That and the fanbus articles are in preperation and should be appearing soon.

A 120mm fan can be fitted but you will lose some drive bay space. I used 80mm fans.

    thank you.

how expensive are such VFDs then?

and how many drive bays do i loose by fitting in an 120mm fan? will i require to make any modifications to the inside to make it fit at all? its kinda hard to tell by the pictures...

maybe ill even stick with a 80mm fan.. but its gonna host a bad ass overclocked p4 system (1,6@2,5) so airflow is pretty important.

and i dont wanna run any high output noisy delta 80mm fans. do you think a low output panaflo would be enough airflow?

heh, i keep coming with the questions dont i. I was just wondering if the mobo tray can be used with a p4 without drilling omre screwholes into the tray?

Chill, I have been very busy. :D

A VFD similar to the one used will cost about $120-150.
Fitting a 120mm fan shouldn't be too hard. Just make the hole bigger and if you use a slim fan then you should retain all the drive bays intact. The HDDs will mount behing the fan keeping them cool. If you don't use a slim fan then the drives may need to be moved back slightly. To do that just drill new mounting holes in the mounting frame.

The clear PC is not the beat for running a heavily overclocked CPU since it tends to hold the heat so 120mm fans may well be the way to go. Although you are using a P4 which has better self cooling than the AMD chips.

I haven't tried a P4 mobo in the case but if it follows the ATX standard then it should be fine. There is no mobo tray as such, the mobo is bolted to the case body using supplied stand offs.

I have an update to the article due this week and followed by the fan bus controller a bit after.

    :D

my plan worked. you posted like 30 minutes after i did.

ok, then i have another question for you. I dont wanna mod a fan with lights as it would most certainly make more noise (and i dont like noise). So.. would it be possible to get one of them Enermax clear fans and put a couple of blue leds behind it and achieve the same effect?

what exactly was the ordered process of doign thigns, i have read and read and rearead everything...

I dont get how you are using teh seperate masks etc,,

by what im reading it looks like your spray painting it then putting on the tint stuff but wouldnt that make it so you cant see through anyway, becuase one side is spray painted?

mayebbe you could email me or IM me or something,

    ionmorph@integrity.com

please expllain i totally am not undetsanding.

Ok, the way I understood it is that you make a mask of all the stuff you do not want semitransparent, and spray the case. Then take off the mask and put on your chrome wherever you want it, and then put the window tint over everything. Where the mask was you will be able to see through the window tint.

    Hope that helps.
