Filco, CM XT (see LennyRhys photo) or Ducky are the options I'd be looking at. Switch wise, people like gaming/typing on all kinds of switches, so it's hard to make recommendations. It depends a lot on how heavy handed you are as a typist, as well as the kinds of games you play... but mostly it's personal preference.

Duckys are pretty decent boards, not sure about some of the full sized Coolermaster boards but their smaller boards are pretty universally liked.

You could always go with a classic Cherry variant. The G80-3000 is a standard fullsized board and the G80-1800 is a smaller footprint version that still retains all the keys of a fullsized board. The Cherry Raptor K1 is a gaming variant of the 1800 if you need 6kro (key roll over). Most Cherry boards will come with black switches which, despite the sterotypes, are fine for both gaming and typing on.

Yslen was spot on, its a V60 wearing nice caps.

In other news, Ducky need to fill the gap that has been created by the apparent discontinuation of their Premier range. We need more easily accessible boards with nice PBT caps without having to import stuff ourselves.

I have a fullsized CM QuickFire which is lovely to write and game on.
I do have a bad habit of accidentally tapping the macro keys located on the left of the board instead of Ctrl, Shift and Tab more often than I'd like, though that's the same for any gaming oriented keyboard that places keys in that position.

Planning to swap it out for something without macro keys next month, probably in the TKL fashion.
Hopefully before I go into a fit of rage and rip those keys off. :hehe:

As far as I know the XT is the only full size board CM do with a standard layout?

The XT is a great board and I'm really happy with it. Cheap as chips too (I think I paid around £65 from Scan).

Switch-wise, I'd recommend trying before buying. There's just no way to know if you're going to like the switches. I loved browns at first, but I much prefer blues now which is why I got the V60.

I loved browns, then decided reds were better without trying them, realised I preferred reds for gaming but missed browns for typing but wanted to try other things, so I went through clears, ergo clears, blacks, blues, buckling springs and vintage blacks with 68g Korean springs before finally getting another board with browns, which is still my favourite for writing.

hopefully the guitar shop down the road is going to sell my pedals :D I just got to finish my "retail" units for the guy in the shop (problem is - I haven't even started building my "retail" boxes - this pink box is a proto, but also something that will never be for sale - I will be doing single effect pedals, but I wanted to practise paint finishes, and lettering etc. and my mate wanted a boutique fancy pedal)

Thread derailment, and by a mod no less!!!!!!111!!1!!!1

Back OT, I've been thinking about dying my vortex PBT caps because I doubt they're gonna sell (stupid italic legends ffs).

Anybody here dyed their caps? I like the idea of doing my own CMY mods, but dye would be expensive.

Cap dying has had mixed results from what I've seen...at best you get a a fairly nice similar colour across the keys you dye, at worst you get a pot of colourful yet deformed bits of plastic...

Stick that into google; there are quite a few more fail cases than win cases unfortunately.
    Code:
    site:geekhack.org cap dying
This is one of the more useful threads, some good information in there.

edit - Just remembered about this one as well, which is pretty good

Are you joking? on a thread that is 1122 pages long, you are complaining of a thread derailment?

Sorry - I will let you get back to your discussion of your amazing taihoa caps for your amazing keyboards :S

Cap dying can look aces - lots of people dying some of their hhkb caps and it looks mint. You need to use hot dye, but you need to be careful it's not too hot and thus upsets your caps.

This thread has derailed so many times since its inception that I have lost count. But as a rough guide you could take the total of my posts in here and divide it by 2.8260177.

Think of it as a very slow irc with a core topic, rather than a useful and informative thread.

    /derailsthreadagain ;)

In keyboard related news, my 3494 is being a right asshat - the 'E' key is chattery as you like - it's so bloody annoying!
