+1. But it's a slant image, they're never particularly accurate.

If there was one thing I'd have to call Mac out on, it's their bull**** advertising campaign. The Mitchell & Webb thing, the white-room-user-interviews thing, all that crap: it's so monumentally patronising and constructed of broad, ignorant sweeping statements that I want to throw a brick through my TV when I see one of them. Thankfully, they've stopped advertising for the most part now.

I can tolerate the iPod ads because they (a) have good music and (b) don't insult my intelligence.

In the interest of full disclosure, while I've never owned a Mac I use them occasionally and have no problems with them. I just felt like contributing to the discussion.

PCs all the way for me. I was forced to use a Mac my junior and senior years of high school and I found it to be nothing special. At first I did find it frustrating because everything was backwards, but after I got over that I was able to use it as quickly as I did Windows. To be honest, I didn't find anything Macs did better than PCs(Music, video, and image editing is what we were working on to be specific).

My main argument against Macs are that they are over priced, they're form over function, and the ads are insulting. Other then that I have no quarrels with them.

Pc. Specifically windows. I do have Ubuntu running on some old systems ( Thanks Glider!! ) but those are currently shelved till construction is done here. Macs became my enemy back in high school yearbook. There's nothing more aggravating than getting close to being done with a two page spread and then the whole thing crashing and burning. The only time I had fun with them was using simpletext to insult people in the room :D

Also can anyone tell me what that black box is on top of the dells tower? Card reader?

It used to be really easy to place users into computer categories... now that line has somewhat blended.

    Old
Linux = Ubergeek borderline nerdvana for those cries of I want it my way, Hard work is the price of ultimate flexibility

Windows = Normal everyday Joe, used windows at work, uses the internet thingy, outlook, excel, word, and at a push access, gets kids, kids install games, Everyday Joe buggers up comp "Fixing His Machine"

Mac = Fashionistas, trendies, or publishers and artists who've "used them at work" liked the way it just did work, it was friendly (I mean, even the little bomb icon of a crashing Mac was cute compared to the big bad blue screen of windows death)

Now those lines have all but gone.

Linux, targeted at NUPOD's in the cute little laptop type thingy
Windows, targeting everyone... ok that didn't change,
Mac, well, yeah... the person who created the iPod should be f'in rolling in dirty money, that little overpriced mp3 player of the time started a revolution.

I guess, its that same ol' story, "its not what you've got... it's how you use it!"
my education was in bbc micro's & later, acorn Archimedes. At home I had a Sinclair ZX Spectrum +3, I knew nothing of computers till I went to uni and needed one, so I researched as far as my limited knowledge could get me and built a 700MHz duron box, stupidly cheap compared to the shiny macs, silly cheap compared with dixons PC's with free 100 CD's of software and free printer ...

what to put on it? for me I didn't know of anything else, I assumed PC = Windows, its all that I saw, I thought Linux was a programming language, I thought Mac OS was a style of windows...

Kids now have it best. the freedom of choice not predetermined by what you use at work / school...

PC all the way. My current computer has components that stem from brand new OEM glitz toys to third party eBay extras to 8 year old soundcards. And you know what? It all works, and if any of it doesn't, I can just buy a new one for cheap.

Macs fail on three fronts for me:
OSX is horrible. It may be stable(ish), but it's still horrible.
They are WAY too expensive for what you get.
Can't play games properly. Or mod them. Or anything really.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Mac vs PC can be summed up in one sentence:

Macs had Myst. PCs had Doom. 'nuff said.

The problem with analogies like that is they imply macs are somehow less 'manly' or 'serious', as if that's a criteria to judge a computer on. Let's not forget UT2004 got a Mac release.

They seem to have all but given up on gaming down at Apple now, though. The number of good games ported to Mac has dwindled to nothingness. I can see why, there can't be much money in manufacturing a game for macs.
