@modsquad Since you have already bought a 4870 water block, what brand card did you buy? Just curious as I haven't had any luck getting a full cover block for my Asus.

I have not. I don't need it yet and I can only hope the price will drop before I do.
I purchased the HeatKiller out of fear. Fear I would not be able to get one then I truly need it..
    Cards:
Most likely XFX nice black-board and reference layout.

Thanks for the heads-up (via PM) on the Aqua-Computer copper aquatube (reservoir) recall. That explains why I have not heard back from sidewinder..
    Thanks TN..

    No, it's not.
And bit-tech (although I love them like a brother) is not the last-word in hardware review.
there are more positive reviews of the board out there
    here
    there
    and everwhere

the BOIS seems to be the real short-coming of there boards.
That is a good thing. A fixable problem.. In the past I have used Asus boards exclusively. BUT, (IMHO) the new generation is not very esthetically-pleasing. IntelX58 does not need the elaborate heat-pipe-action past chipset cooling required.

Friday night will be the first opportunity I have to get in 4-5 hours work in quite some time. But I am always planning/thinking. It's super-busy at work (A good thing in this bad US economy) I have to work Saturday night shift. So, an update should happen Sunday night.

Well now aren't you a tease.

Shouldn't the Champagne be saved for the end? Or do you have some Romeo & Juliet's tucked away for that. =)

is that tiny strip of copper going to be a tube insert that stops kinks, much like a spring but not as ugly.

Burnout: The metal tube inserts that you may have seen in the past aren't to prevent kinking. They are likely coils of silver, acting as a biocide. That said... I don't think a twist of copper would be a very cool anti-kink coil anyway.

I think i have seen someone use aluminium to do as i mentioned. The force applied would be a lame failure tbh.

Oh well just a guess! lol!

    Here is the update guys.
Made use of some of the copper sheet I purchased awhile back.
these are small pieces, average measurement about 20mm x 20mm. Cut with a hacksaw
    [IMG]
    these are mandtory
    [IMG]
    super-shiny
    they go here
    [IMG]
    held in place with
    [IMG]
    like so
    [IMG]
    next
    [IMG]
same deal. My state of the art CAD design program
    [IMG]

next a cover plate for this area
    [IMG]
this thing took a long time and it's not yet finished, but:
bend to match the MB tray
    [IMG]
    test fit, needs trimming
    [IMG]
then a mounting bolt between the cover and the MB tray
    [IMG]

then cut a channel for wiring with
    [IMG]
    both cover
    [IMG]
    and MB tray
    [IMG]
the cover needs another hole for wiring to pass through then some polishing and two coats of
    [IMG]
this stuff. For another day. CS seems to work well, but it's $32US an can :jawdrop: By the way, all the above copper parts received two coats of the stuff.
I also started work on the I/O plate
    [IMG]
    paint
    [IMG]
    copper piece
    [IMG]

the paint did not adhere well to the foxconn plate. It needs sanding and more paint. Later.
Last some access holes for wiring
    [IMG]

    I used an 29mm holesaw
    [IMG]
Hoping to get some more work done on Friday night.
    Have a great day guys!

Those copper pieces on the mobo rear I/O and the radiator are fantastic pieces of detail, you think of everything lol. The cover plate next to the mobo tray is also looking great, nice work.

You do get "better sound performance" BUT, only when listening to Heavy Metal .... get it....
I delayed the update an extra day, trying to FIN that copper plate that bridges the gap between MB tray and case-end.. Just could not get it done.. That thing was a pain (still is)..
For-sure LL has some-sort of clear coat on the MB tray, but I will shoot some CS on it as well..
@ boy4 : God is in the details, my man..
Thanks for following along.. More work Friday (hope)..
