Well, about your black motherboard question... I think the abit IC7-g, the IC7-maxIII and II all have black PCBs.
Hold on... Don't move the case, I'm almost done shaving... Beautiful! I used to shoot cars in the states... but that finish is amazing... did you use PPG? I am eagerly awaiting the next update! (realizing what levels I need to rise to to be able to fit in... guess I had better stop using silver duct tape......)
Thanks everybody. The paint process took about a week. I sanded alum panels w/600 grit paper. Then I used SEM's Black self etching primer on the 3 alum panels. I wetsanded that coat w/ 1200 - 2000 grit. Then applied 2 coats of Black Satin from PLastikote's Classic Laquers Wetsanded w/ 1500 - 2000. I only use Rhynowet sandpaper. Its the best. Then applied an additional coat. Wetsand again. Then I applied Meguiars Medium Cut #1 Cleaner w/ power buffer. Next I apply 3M Perfect It III brand rubbing compound w/ power buffer. I did about 5 or 6 passes. The final step after 30 days is to apply Collinite's #845 Insulator wax. Thanks, I think Starbuckt mentioned these too. By the time I get to that point, maybe something new will be out.
Asus makes a special edition once in a while with the black pearl name, I think the most recent was an Intel based maybe 2 months ago, I don't follow intel often as I am more an AMD guy. By the way MNPC I bought out all of Cole Dudleys old Panaflo fans when he closed caseetc a few years back, I think I have about 5 left, boy did I pay way too much for them but they are still the only true aluminum fans out there that can be polished. The new shiny plastic ones are crap to me. I will look up what IBM machine they came out of, they werent in servers but rather power supplies.
freakin nice painting job!!! Do you think you could get such a finish on wood. I'm working with wood for my watercase amd I can't even get close to such a finnish. Keep up the good work mate.
Superb ideas, total craftmanship ................OMG. I think I'm getting a har... Sorry. In all seriousness: - Excellent, totally excellent. Many more pix to come I hope
Lots and lots of polyurethane. Once you have a lot on, put on twice as much. It should be looking like that after 50 or so coats. I saw some neat stuff at the paint store called "Liquid Glass" that was a very thick clear liquid that looked much like corn syrup, you pour it over the wood object and it makes it very shiney and you don't need ot put gallons of polyurethane on your case. EDIT: w00t! post 539 - except backwards!!!
Holy crap! Why haven't I noticed this log until now?? Excellent finish, and the idea of using the air cleaners .. awesome!!!
Looking really good here! But come on it's been nearly two months since the last update! Hows things going?
Hey gang, thanks for the support. I'm doing other cases while working on "Excalibur" so progress is slow. I assure you an update will be posted by next weekend. Heres another case I'm working on 100 years of Harley Davidson I've chosen "old faithful" Chieftec A hearty worklog will be posted "after" completion.. This way nobody has to perform an archaelogical dig here before I'll update it Projects are taking longer and longer to build. Lots of new talent I admire coming out of the woodwork and I want to continue being one of the few who raise the bar OT: I've also taken some orders for my SC195 as a result of eddie_the_dane's thorough review HERE Thanks @ eddie
Just a quick question - what are the cones for the fans on the front? sorry if its been posted, i have read through, but i might have missed it - are they nose cones from RC planes or something similar? Do you have a link? (sorry, i just really would like to know, apologies if this annoys - im wanting something like this effect) very inspired mod, the part that stood out in my eyes is the fanbus placement, very nice!
