Nice walkthrough! One thing I was just trying to get my head around was: why dont manufacturers sell pre-polished cases? I mean brushed alu and polished alu is THE THING at the moment, im just suprised they didnt pick up on that! I know physically for one person like yourself the hours of work outweigh the profits to be made, but on a commercial scale you could well crack it... Meh... (waits for next years polished cases after big companies spot the market sector)
I think that the reason is that the polishing takes a long time and i think the cases will be very expensive. But i am glad that they aren't pre-polished because if you have a polished case, everybody will be jalouse, because a few people have a polished case.
thats looks great mate, luckily you bought that polisher cause it's going to be hard to keep that shiny. Great work though Stu
What do you do about your aluminium cases oxidising coolmiester? Wouldn't polishing off the layer already built up make the case prone (it's pretty much inevitable I think) to oxidisation?
Coolmiester: Did you use something to protec the case ?, like clear coat or something, aluminium stains easily , more if is pulished...i gess. thx
Huge commitment to polish the entire case. Hats off to you tho looks schweeeeeet! Would it be wrong to say those Wavemaster cases are just about the best full alluminum cases for modding? Just IMO those cases are so versitle and roomy and looks very nice when time/efforts put into them. Cant wait to see this one done.
Looks really good mate. I really love the mirror finish of the entire case, however it's not my very own taste
I got a box of P400grit 3M Stikit disks which are sticky backed and simply stick onto the pad. There is 125 on a roll and i probably used around 20 to 25 to do the whole case. I used a well worn disk to do a final pass over the whole case which left it ready for polishing. Presumably the Peek polishing compound stuff must leave some sort of coating on the shiny aluminium as there is no sign of it going dull yet so no need for any varnish or clear coat. Still waiting on GFX cards to arive!
ahh thanks. yes usually polish does have a protector but it will not last very long. you can always polish it up again tho
keep the updates rolling! My DFI has been shipped (well it will be tomorrow) and I'll pay for the x850 also... we'll see if my messed up pc-61 can play ball with your CM! (ie:) any idea's on this nasty adhesive thats left? meths + a scrubbing pad didnt work
