wel... he came home and helped me find most of it:clap: still need to get more paint. He was trying to do me a favor, and well it actually looks better.
Id rather forgive somebody then stay mad, the only thing im bummed about is having to re-paint the whole thing

And c-niper, I have drill press but i just bought it and don't have enough bits, so i was using the wrong bit and when i clamped the original cover to the new one and drilled through that, for some reason it would grap the plexi and slied up and spin around, hard to e xplain but it was really dangerous. So i had to mark it and then drill it, and the metal bit kept sliding the plexi away, so thats why its like that. Its not from bad measurements or anything. Next time i will either get new bits or use a hand drill

one side of the case, the left side. Cut it out to the correct dimensions, Then i drilled a lot of holes for riviting to side of case, then i made a design for a window(which was not planned) so heres me cutting it

And i still have to cut the plexi and drill holes for it, but heres the left panel 99% finished(light sanding left to do)

And the whole things not plexi because you would just be seeing the back of a motherboard tray

so yeah! gotta go get some more drill bits, and file, and do 5 more sides(...) but progress is being made!

    Alrighty!

im not sure if this is normal, but i just did a window mod in 20 minutes... loll! i havn't attached it yet nor peeled of protective layer on acrilic(as you can see) because i still need to paint the side, and i can't paint the side with a window attached lol! so i started with a huge peice of acrilic and the side i was going to do this on:

cut acrilic out to basic dimensions, but still wasn't enough so i took it to scroll saw
    [IMG]
Shot with COOLPIX P4 at 2007-07-07
And neatened it up for a better fit
    drilled it

    this took the longest

some picks of a mock up: note that all the aluminum's exterior is cut. Still needs some filing...

so yeah theres 4 sides there, and it is taped on. ignore edges, as its literally taped on and not taped on straight

Teyber,... your doing a good job man. Some constructive critism for you,... the hole you cut in the aluminum for the window is a bit off. You want to make sure ALLLLLLL your corners are 90 degrees. Do you have a right angle? If so check you corners. Remember,... don't think quick. Think perfect. Take your time. I know this is your VERY first project. You WILL make mistakes. I see crooked edges. Always measure measure measure before you cut. Everything needs to be perfectly straight. Make sure the outer edges of your piece is straight first. Once you know the outer edges are straight,... then you can use those edges to draw out you design or window on the piece. You can measure from the edge. Understand? I'm about to start cutting up some more aluminum in my log. I'll make sure it's VERY detailed just for you. I'll explain everything I just told you know. so you can see what I mean. Ok? Keep up the good work:)

yeah, i have been filing it a lot. This was my first time ever using a jig saw,(and a cehap one at that ) so its been pretty hard. I filed down all the exterior edges and re-taped them on the case(the way they will be mounted) and im pleased to say the least. the pics i took were recently after cutting(almost no filing) but the window, yeah i admit i screwed it up. More filing for me!

Do you know where to file and where not to file? You have to tape off the piece and draw some lines so you know where you remove material. You can use the edge of a ruler to up against your edge that your working on to check to make sure it's straight. Just slow down and take your time. Theres no hurry.

    got some soldering stuff!
    40 watt soldering gun
    22 gauge wire
    electical tape
    .032" solder
    3 blue led's
tons of various resisters. They didn't have enough blue ones, so im going to order those and the exact resisters online. Im going to get the hang of it with these. I also went to lowes, bought 3 cans of enamel paint, metal drill bits, oil(did you know your supposed to put oil on the metal before drilling through it!?!?!? i wish i learned that earlier) as lubricant, spray paint handles, and started looking at handles. found some neat ones!

but i have really sad news,(for me)

This morning, my parents decided they they were going to split up. Im not going into details, but they did it mutually, and still we are going to be "family", like celebrate birthdays and such... but i need some time to think and im not going to get to work for a while.

That sucks, bro, no two ways about it. I just recently went through a divorce and although the break up may be a mutual understanding, things can still get rough sometimes. Just remember it has nothing to do with you, it's between them. If they care as much about you as I care about my sons, you'll be all good.
And don't forget, idle hands are the devils work shop. It's good to take a break, but don't let your project sit too long, it's good "therapy" to work on a hobby. Best of luck and I look forward to your next update.

thanks. it doesn't make any effin sense to me, both my parents are psycologists and my dad has written 7 books about coping with divorse, and how it affects children. they are both proffesors also, and are kind, loving parents/people. Just seems completely arbituary... they never agreed and fought often, but for the fact that my dad is a child psycologist and writes books to help kids, i think that he would know how much better it would be for the family if he had waited 3 years, which is when im going to colledge. Man this sucks. Only positive thing is at my dads house im getting a sony 46" 1080p television with a computer hooked up to it, but that doesn't make me feel any bette.

p.s. im re-making the zalman controller

thats how i did it, however i didn't use wire between the led's. Forgot to include, do you solder the 12v to the positive(+) or the negative(-) of the first L.E.D.? I also used electric tape over each joint after i was sure it was secure
