The first Zalman Reserator would perfectly fit in the middle there -> http://www.zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=255

    - 120 cores @ 2.5GHz (10x Opteron 6180) -

Added the 5x pumps and the 5x 1U PSU (HP 24" monitor as size comparison)

That'd be an impressive machine, and very iconic in this pentagon shape :thumb:

But... I'm more interested in small solutions, so I'm going to hijack this thread with a full setup in just 9.5 litres :D

I have a question. I'm trying to upgrade my system, but I'm on a budget. I saw a QX6850 @ 130€. Do you think it is worth it ? I could get 40/45€ from my Q6600 G0 I think, dropping the upgrade cost to 80/90€.

Considering my mobo wasn't able to OC my Q6600 and I'm not feeling like bying a new mobo + cpu + ram. The saved money could be spent in a SSD + new monitor.

    QX6850: 3GHz, 8M cache, FSB 1333

    Q6600: 2.4GHz, 8M cache, FSB 1066

Going by these numbers the QX6850 should be a good bit faster then the Q6600, and if you're guaranteed a flawless QX6850 at €130, then it might very well be worth the upgrade, but that's hard to decide from my end.

The last upgraded I did was going from a C2D E8400 to an i5-760 and from DDR2-800 to DDR3-1333, but then I don't actually do upgrades, but buy a completely new rig every two years.

My actual Q6600 + 4GB DDR2-800 + HD5870 is still nice, but I'm willing to give it some boost for not much money.

I saw QX9650 @ 220€ (same frequency, only 4% more perf compared to the QX6850, but saves 53W in charge).

I will for sure buy a SSD and a quicker HDD.

Ok, I think I've played and experimented enough. It's time now to create a new dress for my current rig.

For those interested, I'm modeling an Asus Maximus IV gene-Z. I'll add it to the SU collection once finished.

EDIT : A preview of the current layout. Front fans are 140mm ones.

EDIT 2 : An attempt to include 2x 360mm rads

Quick dress --> Quick update :

I made a rough shell for the watercooled option, to have an idea of the overall size. What do you all think about this shape and layout ?

EDIT : A little grill idea to cover the rad

Are there some fans planed under the radiators also? Grill idea is good, forms a nice stand for the whole package.

Thanks a lot. Yes, I'll fit some fans under the rad. Have to think about a dust filter system.

Thanks :D. Sure, I'll share the gene-z SU file ... for the half SSI, ask Confusis since it is his.

The half-ssi board? Go for it. Once it's done I'll upload it to the SCC along with 10 or so other items I've finished and have stashed away.

I was just thinking that one of those half-SSI boards would work well in a Silverstone FT03 mod, but I think it's just a tad too tall, although could be modded to fit. Having one of those boards fitted to the front or the back would open up alot of space for water cooling. I may have to come up with a quick SU design when I have time.

I quite like the new design Guille, although I've gotta say that I prefer the monolith designs more, as they're a little different, while this is quite conventional (other than the rad orientations).

Wish I could find the time to put ideas into designs like you are doing. I've got some ideas floating around, but I always seem to be busy with uni work.

Thanks, but I have to agree ... I do prefer the monoliths. This is why I didn't made any update. I spent the week end playing with the more common design and I didn't came with anything that suites me.

I have another thing in mind that I want to try, a kind of clockwork tower.

Edit : I think that the best is to list everything I like and try to make something with it. Well, what do I like ? What represents me the best ?

    - Antique and ancien objects
    - Gears, clocks, mecanical stuff
    - Wood and metal (copper, bronze, etc.)
    - Mecanical stuff that look alive
    - Sculptures
    - Dali (the painter)
    - Mythology

And some pics of my universe :

I'll try to make something by mixing this.

Damned, my head is burning. I think I'll make sample designs, part by part and assemble them in a second step.

    What do I need :

    - Mobo holder
    - Reservoir + mounting system
    - Pump + mouting system
    - Radiator + muonting system
    - PSU holder
    - Wire management / routing
    - A general skeleton

My first idea concerns the reservoir. I have in mind to mix an Aquatube and a motorized iris system.

The iris will open itself on power on and close on power off. A led will backlight the aquatube and will be used as system power led.
