    Very bad news about Maria.
More details will likely surface in the next few weeks. She was apparently in Spain promoting her autobiography "Life is a gift".

It's too early to make any predictions about this weekend yet,but Alonso looked like he wason the edge for most of the runs he did in FP2...

Yeah, I instantly though suicide when I read the headline. IIRC, brain trauma (like the kind caused by smashing your face into a truck) makes people to goofy ****, including killing themselves. See: NFL players.

On the other hand, it could simply be complications from the aforementioned injury itself, like a clot jamming in a blood vessel somewhere.

I certainly hope it's the latter, because suicide would be just tragic for someone who was so inspiring in her post-injury days.

Apparently Spanish police are assuming it was a natural death :eyebrow:

is that 'natural death' in the same way wrestlers and the like suffer from 'undiagnosed heart defects'?

I saw that and automatically thought "suicide".

She had a gift, she was at the top of her game, about to break the glass ceiling into F1 and then caught the tail-gate of a truck and lost it all. Life is a gift? My arse. For her, life was a bridge to stardom that gave way at the last moment. And then it collapsed.

More women should follow in her footsteps, if only to prove that the bridge can be crossed, that women can enter the pinnacle of the sport and do at least as well as the men. Sadly, it wasn't to be in her case.

Life wasn't the gift. Driving is the gift. Some people have it, some people don't.

looks at news...Seb isn't on pole position, thinking I might watch this race ( the first in a fairly long while )
news reads he had a broken Kers unit and STILL beats everyone except his teammate, who is only 3 / 10s faster ?

something is seriously wrong when you can lose Kers and still beat everyone on the grid...

Hopefully Webber won't pull over by turn one and let Vettel past.

Webber deserves a win in Suzuka,

Webber wouldn't do it because he is too much of a professional but I'd love it if he took vettel out, jumped out of the car and said "MULTI 21 SEB".

Hope Webber wins tomorrow - a win or two in the final races would be excellent :cooldude:

Honestly, given Vettel's history of stuffing stuff up for Mark Webber (all the way back to Fuji 2007 no less) I think Mark will put Seb in the wall before he lets him past.

It's not like Red Bull can threaten him now, five races, nothing left to go for but wins.

Personally I want Vettel to suffer a Grosjean moment, Grosjean doesn't have to be involved, just Seb :D

Webber got sacrificed for Vettel to win. Nothing new tho.

Besides that, there was some good racing going on actually. Hülkenberg showed some good driving again, but this time it wasn't enough unfortunately.

Gutted that Webber got held up behind Grosjean, after Vettels 'Keep him away from me WAHWAHWAH' moan I was hoping to see Webber take it to him.

Decent result for Grosjean though, he's definitely maturing as a race driver now. If Hulkenberg is at Lotus next year they'll have a strong lineup.

Yeah we won't enforce team orders but we will force Webber to do a slower 3 stop strategy when his tyres are fine

Debatable whether Webber would of been better of doing a two stopper, he doesn't manage his tires as well as Seb.

And really the strategy they used for Webber was fine, it was his own inability to overtake Grosjean, despite having a faster car with much fresher tires, that cost him the chance to fight for the win.

I haven't watched much of F1 in the last few years

it seems less on how good the cars / drivers are these days but how many loopholes of the rulebooks you can find / jump though
