The Beekeeper PredictableStatham/10 Went out for a meal and the cinema with my son last night as he's off travelling for 6 months in a couple of weeks. A bit of father & son time as 'the management' is away for the weekend Pretty much as predicted, cliche after cliche and plenty of gratuitous violence. Sufficiently entertaining but not much thought put into the plot Spoiler Retired super classified organisation operative - check Someone who's been good to him in trouble - check Lots of people to injure & kill - check Tiered bad guys to track down - check Big conspiracy to deal with alone - check Law enforcement officer after him but 'helping' - check
Oh dear god please no! Weekend to myself coming up. Considering a full 4K run through of all the Star Wars (including the prequels as some sort of punishment to myself) as I got several free months Disney+ premium with my TV. So yay? Nay? Peoples have other options I may be blindly missing? It's not been that long since I did a Hobbit/LotR run through so that's probably out (depending if I choose to sleep or not).
I would say Yay! In solidarity I might do the LOTR run through which has been far too long (the wife cant hack it but she is away all weekend!)
If you're going to watch all the Star Warses, you need to decide which order to watch them in - release order, chronological order, Machete order (4, 5, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 1). Or do you include Rogue One after New Hope as well?
As @Arboreal says, Rogue One ends mere minutes before New Hope begins. It's basically "Episode 3.999"
Dont forget Solo! and if you want to avoid sleep, weave in the animated series also (Clone Wars, Rebels) and the live action series (The Mandolorian, Ahsoka, Obi Wan, Andor, Book of Boba) EDIT: Forgot BoB!
Rogue One is hands-down my favourite of the entire franchise. I reckon Aliens 1-3 (4 optional) then Rogue One (with Andor optional beforehand if you're committed to just sitting in front of the new box all weekend), plus some gaming time. Then dip in and out of Star Wars over the weeknights so you make the most of your free weekend.
I'm currently running through the Star Warsi with the kids. We're doing 1, 2, and 3 on Disney+, then flicking over to the legally questionable Demastered Editions* that I acquired, then back to Disney+ for 7, 8, and 9. We'll be skipping Solo and probably Rogue One (even though I have seen Rogue One before and quite enjoyed it). *Han not only shot first, but he was the only one who shot and I will die on this hill!
My favourite as well, watched it a few times. I was just thinking of doing the main films chronologically. My next Rogue One watch will be after Andor's final season 2 (after a rewatch of season one of course). That also has been my favourite spin off series although also a fan of Mando. I actually enjoyed Fett as well but a couple of those were pretty much Mando episodes I guess.
Mando started well but has gone increasingly soft as it goes, I'm less of a fan as we go on, despite how good the casting/scripting is in general. I know that's half the point, but it's gone too far for me. Andor is tremendous.
I'm not sure I can do it. Just started Episode 1 and I forgot about Jar Jar Binks and that's even before the annoying kid turns up....
My thinking about putting Rogue One after New Hope is that New Hope acts as an introduction the series and the acts of R1 get mentioned in New Hope as well, so having it after acts as a flash back to what happened to get the data to allow the attack on the death star. The Machete version of the Star Wars order leaves out Ep1 completely, because (a) it's utter sh1te, (b) doesn't contain any essential plot elements, and (c) doesn't leave you asking how Anakin aged so quickly while Padme didn't...
@Flibblebot An interesting thought about using R1 as a flashback... I also had forgotten about BoB, which I really enjoyed. I like Tatooine stuff and that was cleverly done, especially how his back story was told. That said, early Anakin on Tatooine in whichever episodes 1 to 3 doesn't do anything for me. I need to get back to The Mandalorian as I have left it for a bit. As has been said, it started well but has drifted and almost spun out too long. Andor was great and with a fixed end point shouldn't fall into that trap.
I'm leaving Mando, and probably won't be watching any more - to my mind, S3 left it at a good place to end, with no major dangling plots. BoB was only really Mando S2.5, but I'd be more interested in another BoB series that didn't twist itself into knots trying to fit in with the Mando plotlilnes.
