Wowsers. Only question I still have after watching (from a point of no experience at all) is why no sonic boom if supersonic?
Because it is just fast moving gas. The sonic boom from an aircraft, flying at more than the speed of sound, is caused by a pressure wave trailing from the nose and, a lesser one trailing from the end of the tail. The pressure waves are compressed because of the high speed, hence we hear the loud crack.

The fact that saccadic masking can affect your vision when driving. I was aware of the phenomenon, but I hadn't ever thought about it in that context. TL;DR: when you move your eyes, your brain blanks out the signal from the optic nerves until your eyes stop moving and then fills in the gaps afterwards. If you want to see this in action, try watching your eyes move in a mirror (an actual mirror, not a front-facing phone camera) - you can't see them move. This system isn't perfect, so sometimes you miss details. I'm going through the pre-workshop video content for a BikeSafe workshop coming up next weekend; one of the officers mentioned that saccadic masking can affect your vision when you or others are looking around at junctions or roundabouts. Had never thought about it in that context.
A fella by the name of Kevin Williams does a lot of good stuff, including what you've picked up on today, Z-line riding, high viz camouflage, light colours and patterns etc etc. https://scienceofbeingseen.org/the-science-of-being-seen-introduction/ https://www.youtube.com/@survivalskillsuk/videos It's a very deep rabbit hole to pop down.
Cheers, will check that out. I watch Roadcraft Nottingham too - when he actually uploads anything new! - and he's demonstrated a lot of advanced riding/police roadcraft techniques. That channel is also the reason I've got a Pan European, he was using one as his instructor bike and I really liked the look of it . A lot of the stuff talked about in these videos I've kinda picked up along the way, but I can't say I always put it into practice. Hence booking the BikeSafe workshop ahead of doing ERS training later this year, and I'll likely grab a paperback copy of the motorcycle roadcraft manual.
I know that one, I should know better, but I prefer / revert back to how I like to ride, it's not the safest way to be on the road, but I didn't take up riding to be safe. Apols for posting a link to another forum (hey who knew there were other forums online) but there are some good tips / subjects here https://revtothelimit.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=10 , it can be a bit of a bear pit, it can also be very dry given the subject
TIL, that apparently, some doctors have warned people, not to push frozen potatoes up their arse... Seems this warning is from a few years ago but, had passed me by. Also, why, why shove a frozen spud up yer arse?
Sounds like a perfect way to get an ambulance ride to hospital. Srsly kids, don’t put stuff up your butt unless it was designed to go up your butt, or it’s someone else’s body part (and even then only within reason).
To be honest, it never occurred to me, that anyone might think I was doing anal, frozen spud insertion myself... Each to their own!
I see how you selectively quoted to change the meaning, are you a journalist working for the Daily Mail?
