hmmmm Congrats for getting on Engadget , I see there is a troll messing with people on there already though .
I missed you mate. School still keeping you busy? Thanks! Thanks! Good luck to you as well. I'm just glad I'm not in the scratch-built category.
Yes quite busy unfortunately. I'm doing 5 subjects this semester, no spare time at all, not even to work on my own project . Oh well, just under a month left of this semester .
I've said 'sweet' here enough so let's take it up to 'delicious'. That case came out delicious. There's always room for a sideways-mounted slot load optical. -also known as a cd-roller.
Thanks Cheaps! The last time I used an optical drive was to load the OS and then I used an external drive. I put an optical drive in all three projects I built in 2010 and have never used them. That makes a total of 18 optical drives I own. I'm an early adopter of new technology and an early disposer of old technology and I'm actually ashamed I put those drives in my projects last year. I only did it to stop the incessant whining from people who apparently still commute to work in horse-drawn buggies. /rant
Impeccable work as always Jeffrey. Simply beautiful, and a true homage to FLW's work. I love how you seamlessly incorporated all those design cues into one piece. And yet it still comes across as a case mod. By the way, I hope you used flame-resistant paint on that, cause well, you know LOL.
et tu Boddaker? I think I did OK with individual elements like the back panel but I'm not so sure about the "seamlessly incorporated" thing. Thanks Brian and good luck in the contest. You know you got my vote.
Looking at the current voting I would say that people are missing the fact that you have one vote for each category. There are three times as many votes for scratch builds as there are for tower mods. In theory they should be the same. Worse yet are all the wasted votes on incomplete projects that have no chance of winning. It's a straight up pimpfest yo. Thanks. I appreciate that Jeff and thanks for playing along during this project. Cool! Thanks!
Congrats to all the winners in the Cooler Master Mod Competition. Usonian took one of the third place prizes and I'm very happy with that. It was a great contest. It was well run with heavy participation and I would say a big win for case modding in general. Hopefully Cooler Master is pleased and will do this again next year. I hope others will learn from the hybrid judging/pop vote format and do something similar. Before Usonian slides off into project log oblivion I wanted to post one last inspiration photo that I forgot about. This should have been the first photo posted in this log. Cheers.
I just visited slipperyskip.com and now I try hard to pick up my jaw from the floor - it's sitting pretty good down there.
Final follow-up post ( I promise). The prize package that Usonian won in the Cooler Master contest included my choice of ANY Cooler Master mid-tower case. I decided on the crazy-rare White CM 690 II Advanced just to see if they were serious. Shipped straight from Taiwan 'cause they don't sell them here in the US (or many places at all really). The factory window is also rare. I've never seen a photo of it even on the CM website. There is a brief mention of it in the owner's manual. Usonian is based on the black version of this case. I still have all the external panels from it intact. Might be fun to mix and match parts and make some sorta zebra thingy. Hmmm...maybe not.
That is a very nice case. I have only ever seen one for sale in Australia so it looks like it may be as rare as they say.
